Drill, Obama, drill
NY Post ^ | January 21, 2011 | Jonah Goldberg

On Tuesday, the president will deliver his State of the Union message. The con ventional wisdom is that President Obama will continue his "move to the center."

This undoubtedly means Obama will try to seem as if he's meeting Republicans halfway on their "reasonable" demands while drawing a stark line against their "unreasonable" ones.

This sort of strategizing leaves most Americans cold. These days, they're less concerned with "triangulation" than they are with the creation of good jobs that aren't bogus make-work, or paid for with money borrowed from China or our grandkids.

If that's true, the solution is right in front of Obama's face. To echo a chant from the 2008 GOP convention, "Drill, baby, drill!"

The objective case for developing our oil and gas wealth is pretty straightforward. With the exception of climate change, pretty much everything the Obama administration considers a major problem would be improved by opening the floodgates to exploration.

The deficit? The oil industry already pays the US treasury more than $95 million a day in taxes, rent, royalties and the like. If you expand exploration, you expand revenues.

If America unlocked its oil and gas reserves, the government could take in an estimated $1 trillion to $2 trillion more revenue over the coming years. That's not counting the revenues from the stimulus of lower fuel and energy costs.

Here is what it will take to get America off of foregin oil:

1. Build more oil refineries (creating jobs)

2. Allow every coastal state to vote whether they want offshore drilling (creating more jobs)

3. Lease and build more nuclear power plants (allow states to vote on this as well if necessary)...creating more jobs

4. Promote search and development for natural gas and diesel technologies.

5. Process a lot more coal and develop clean coal technology (if there is such a thing).

6. Find a way to recycle nuclear waste.

7. Develop more synthetics which have economic viability such as uses for fuel, etc.

8. Protect the national power grids

That would ruin Obamas plans for 7 dollar gas.

I think he’d love to have it but AFTER 11/2012, don’t you think?

All his “moving to the center” and “jobs focus” would be less than worthless if he maneuvered gas price that high.
High gas prices 3 years ago helped fuel the fire against Bush. I’m sure Obozo remembers that.

And yes, I remember he advocated high gas prices to his lefty base before the ‘08 election. I just think he’ll wait a while, since politics is everything to the Democrats.

But maybe he’ll revert to his wacko-lefty nature and go for high prices now. Then he’ll see his improved poll numbers go right down the drain. WE know he is a phony...but millions of naive independents are intent on giving him the benefit of the doubt. He’ll lose them fast if he publicly supports expensive fuel.

Bernanke is a leading cause of the rise in energy prices. Every time the fed creates a load of new dollars, the crude price jumps and we pay for it at the pump. I wonder what kind of discussions Bernanke and Obama are having about that.

Sorry Jonah... cnn has spilled the beans and negated any thought of obammy moderating. He wants another 1.8 trillion dollar stimulus in the form of an anal probe for the working class.

I would not be surprised to see Obama proclaim the lifting of the deep water drilling ban and the opening up of some areas for “exploration” (not drilling) in order to make it sound like he has moderated on the issue.

Of course, it will be smoke and mirrors and will have no impact on our oil supply, nor will it help reverse the damage Obama has done to our domestic oil drilling industry.

Traders might fall for it and prices might moderate-—temporarily.

People who are otherwise bright and suspicious of BSers seem to become hypnotized by this sh___head. Very hard to understand. I can’t recall many politicians as transparent as Hussein.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Obama will also take credit for "healing the oceans" after the BP spill and ensuring it will never happen again.

The Environmentalist left will never stand for drilling. Too many campaign dollars ride on their support. The sad state of the union will be more lies in the hope of continuing to hoodwink at least 51 percent of the american people.

More Wind and Solar Farms is what we WILL get. Along with triple prices for Electricity. Also, we get another QE3 scam from Burn-yank-me and another wonderful Trillion + dollar “Porkulus”.

The theory that the reason the first 4 “stimulus” scams did not work, was because they just were not big enough.

What the hell, every attempt has failed miserably and we are technically bankrupt. SO, LET'S DO IT AGAIN!

As a real estate guy, this is the first time I have seen the new Oval Office decor. It certainly has a distinct “ethnic” look to it which is certainly within the President’s rights to do. It is more casual, warm, homey and comfortable looking but I don’t think that is what we as a country want to really project as an image. In my opinion the prior decor was powerful and visually stimulating. I hope something like it returns after 2012.....if you know what I mean. ;)
