Why is there not a federal law against this? The founding fathers wanted us to be able to say anything against politicians but when championing freedom of speech I don’t believe they had this in mind.

The Westburros, in their twisted theology, think it gets them glory. There is no logic as to choosing the most sympathetic audience to their message.

They are in it for the money. Their entire protest is a scam. They are scamming the bereaved. They want someone to hit them so they can sue. There has got to be a legal way to make these scumbags pay a big, big price for their scum-actions. This is not free speech.

Oh, they’ll meet Him alright,...it’s just a question of the bema seat or great White Throne Judgment. If the former, then I suspect they are leaving a lot of crowns on the table which had been made for them in eternity past. If the latter, then they might be very surprised.

I tend to place them in the same category as Obama’s Trinity United Church of Christ. “Unapologetically Christian” (an oxymoron)

It is a despicable act.
Completely void of any empathy for the family who is grieving.
Shameful

I’d like to pick my nose and then shake Fred Phelps’ hand.

Is it a sin to hope for a bus accident to take out the whole lot of them? Id protest their funeral. SnakeDocGod knows we're all sinners - and He forgives us.

What do the majority of these 'congregants' do for a living. Am amazed that they have the funds to move all over the Country at the 'drop' of a death announcement. Are they 'funded' otherwise by donations or do they pay with their own money for their outings. . .
Anyone know?

These “people” give religion a bad name. The churches in the area should unite against them.

They claim they use their own money to travel to protest funerals & some of the Phelps are lawyers. Fred was disbarred. Not all of the many kids stayed, some left & have spoken out of terrible beatings etc. Fred is a very sick man & Shirley is a demon. Why we don't all do a mass picket for days at their church compound I don't know. If they can do it to us maybe a taste of their own medicine would be nice. I think they are funded by somebody, who I don't know. You have to remember that Fred has made a living suing for anything & everything he can. They want you to hit them so they can sue you. That may fund their pickets.
Westboro Baptist Church is based in a circle of houses in a middle-class Topeka neighborhood. In one house, Phelps raised his family, and eventually the neighbors' houses were purchased, effectively creating a compound. All the houses share a large fenced backyard. To Phelps' congregation he is "Gramps" -- nine of his thirteen children belong to the group (four having fallen away), along with dozens of grandchildren and a handful of followers unrelated by blood. The adults hold jobs and the children attend school, but they otherwise do not associate with outsiders. All of them, even the youngest children, are expected to join in the pickets.
He was suspended from the practice of law for two years beginning in 1969, on three counts of professional misconduct. He was disbarred in 1979 for showing "little regard for the ethics of his profession", after several of his court filings seemed to be increasingly at odds with the facts of the assorted matters. The family's law firm continues to operate. Of Phelps' children, all adults, at least 11 are lawyers, and several work for the family firm.
Hope this gives you some insight to the WBC wackadoodles.

From what I’ve heard about them, they seem to be a cult of lawyers that sue a lot. Suing people seems to take up a lot of their time. They also have the charismatic leader, the heretical teachings, the expulsion of people who question their teachings and isolation of members you find in other cults.

Amen. They are scum, low lives, ignorant, heartless, souless, ugly, vile, lame, evil of heart, evil of mind, void of anything decent and just downright vile. They are truly without God... Don't be redundant. Haven't you heard? Fred Phelps is a Democrat.
