On Tuesday night NBC held a goodbye party at Hatfields restaurant on Melrose for NBC Television Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin.
Ever wonder how this reasonably capable executive came to be squeezed out of a job in the new NBC-Universal hierarchy led by Comcast COO Steve Burke?
I wondered too.
It turns out that it involved his $200,000 new bathroom.
When Gaspin was promoted to run NBC in July 2009, he decided he didnt want to share a bathroom with the other executives on the 11th floor of the Wasserman building, according to a knowledgeable insider.
So he ordered the construction of an opulent privy in his own office.

Life imitates Atlas Shrugs.
$200,000 Bathroom.
The first of many to leave that hellhole.
"We was only gonna run new drain pipes, but when we opened up the floor we found all of this termite damage..."
Gaspin didn’t leave of his own free will. He was fired. Expect the same for Olbermann, MadCow, Chrissy, Schultz, Scarborugh and the rest over the course of the next year. Olbermann and Schultz will be among the first to get the boot.
$200,000 Bathroom.
Big deal. I thought he got dumped because he got caught having lunch wit Michelle Malkin;)
The fools at NBC have no idea what’s coming their way. Barebones is the way with their new bosses. For the MSNBC crowd, if their shows make money ,they’re safe. If not buh bye.
Trust me. I know of what I speak ;)
I hope you are right!
I’m telling ya’, I met Brian Robert’s at a diner, years ago and later became an employee.
These guys are business men and whatever their leanings are politically, they are, at the end of the day, pragmatists and do what it takes to be number 1 or number 2 in their businesses.
plus the ComCast CEO probaably wants to “make money” ... NOT be on the NYC party invite “A-List” for always insulting Convervatives ...
Comcast COO Steve Burke is a Republican. His boss is a Democrat. And I’m sure they’re both not happy about all of the giveaways they had to promise Obama in order to get the FCC to approve the merger.
Hope those Comcast subscribers are going to be happy with the rate hikes that will go along with paying for all of that near-free internet and near free computers they promised der Fuehrer they would pass out to his voting base.
Is the ‘Wasserman” building one of those on the main lot at Universal Studios?
Please clarify. Thx.
It's the original "Black Tower" on Lankershim.
Yep, right there next to what used to be the Bank of America branch next to the Lankershim gate.
This makes a nice tale, but doesn’t ring true. In my 30 years in that town, I saw far more severe trangressions by executives that were overlooked as long as they kept making money for the networks/studios. I suspect the real reason for his departure will be found in the ratings.
I hope all of their producers get it too!
