As a practical matter, ObamaCare is a Federal government takeover of health care. It mandates coverage - enforced by the Federal government. It creates dozens of new government bureaucracies that will control coverages, pricing, and delivery systems through the power to issue rules and regulations as they see fit. The purpose is to drive private insurers out of business - and it will, without a doubt - because it destroys their business model.
When companies are legally enjoined from using actuarial science to set insurance rates, or from offering different tiers of coverage based upon both science and experience - they are no longer in the "insurance" business. Unless we overturn ObamaCare, we will be left with only government "insurance", and those who accuse Republicans of lying about it are themselves guilty of dissembling.
That and downgrading the quality and availability of medical care for the majority of Americans, and destroying the medical profession and other health care professions in the process.
This is not the first time that Cohen has gone on an outrageous rant on the House floor. But this comes on the heels of the 'Rats' innuendos about the "tone of the political debate" contributing to the recent Tucson shootings.
Cohen is just as off-the-wall as several other 'Rat colleagues in the House when it comes to grossly inappropriate rhetoric. Unfortunately, unlike the since departed Allan Grayson (for example), he was re-elected in November.
