Tennessee Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen stood by comments he made on the House floor late Tuesday night in which he used a Nazi comparison to discuss Republicans who call the health care law a government takeover, but insisted he was making a point about lying, not trying to insinuate that Republicans were Nazis.
It wasnt about Nazis, it was about lies, Cohen told The Daily Caller Wednesday. The biggest liar, the biggest political liar was Goebbels. Politifact called this the biggest lie of the year. If you dont stand up and say lies are lies, they stand for the truth. Somebody has to come out and say theyre lies. Politifact did and I cited Politifact. I have no problem with that.
In the wake of the recent shooting in Tucson, Arizona that severely injured Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed and wounded several others, Republicans and Democrats alike have called for members of Congress to take a more civil tone when discussing policy issues. For most members, that included at least a temporary hiatus on House floor hyperbolic comparisons. But Cohen insisted that his comments were perfectly in line with the new tone his colleagues were looking for.
I think lying is uncivil, he said, when asked whether he thought his comments were in tune with recent calls for civility. Its a big lie. And I think lies should not be tolerated. The ninth commandment, thou shalt not bear false witness, stands in Congress too.
When asked if it was appropriate to compare political opponents to Nazis, who orchestrated the murder of more than 10 million people, he dismissed the premise, saying, I dont think anybody should have drawn that comparison.
You decide. From Cohens comments Tuesday:
They say its a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels. You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. Thats the same kind of thing, blood libel. Thats the same kind of thing, Cohen said. The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it -believed it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover.
I stand by my remarks that you are a communist projecting who and what you are onto us... we read alinsky... you pos rat bastard!

ohh, beat me to it !
I prolly would have used words like #$%@&%^#$*&@@
And they yak on about Sarah Palin
These people are certified nutcases. . . . this clown should be involuntarily committed like his counterpart in Tucson
Can I call Mr. Cohen a “Commie” then??
Same game, different year.
What? Is this assh0le dhim trying to replace grayson?
Sure you can! There is no gov’t takeover of health care YET, because all the insurance companies have not YET been driven out of business. In that sense, the little Commie puke bastard is correct.
There should be a required minimum of murders committed before a person or group can be called Nazis. I say at least 1 million as the benchmark before the analogy can be made otherwise we lose the symmetry.
To compare someone to Nazis without any evidence of mass murder seems bad form and hyperbole.
Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen is a liar.
Powder..patch..ball FIRE!
What is his contact information. I’d like to give the good congrassman a phone call and ask him about the new civility.
And then laugh at him and say “We won, shut up you dog_t@rd”
You know, all these calls for civility over the past 10 days or so in light of the AZ shootings — “civility,” or capitulation? Conservatives must be silent, but Leftists can say any bloody thing they wish, no matter how vile, false and salacious? Most of the time, these people leave precious little room for “civility.”
You want a nazi comparison?
Try the way the democrats passed Obamacare. THAT was classic nazi tactics right there.
:-)!

This jerk couldn’t get elected anywhere in Tennessee except in the inner City of Memphis.

ABC News Jonathan Karl reports: The newfound civility didnt last long. Political rhetoric in Congress doesnt get much nastier than the words of one House Democrat during the debate on repealing the health care law.
In an extraordinary outburst on the House floor, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) invoked the Holocaust to attack Republicans on health care and compared rhetoric on the issue to the work of infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.
They say its a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels, Cohen said. You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. Thats the same kind of thing. And Congressman Cohen didnt stop there.
The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed itbelieved it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover, Cohen said.
Cohen made his comments late last night, but they have attracted no attention because his speech was made to a virtually empty House chamber with no reporters around to watch.
