The silliest thing about this whole hulabaloo is that Gervais’ routine consisted, at heart, of tire, old jokes. Well worded and delivered, perhaps, but old jokes nonetheless.
Charlie Sheen is sleezy? Tom Cruise is gay? Robert Downey, Jr. did drugs? The Sex and the City ladies are old? The fat guy from Lost is fat? How dare he! I’ve never heard such gall. Except, that is, on every episode ever of Leno, Letterman, Conan, The Daily Show, The Soup, etc. Either the golden Globes isn’t the loose, swingin’ get-together we’ve been led to believe, or Hollywood types are remarkably sheltered and ignorant.
“of tire, old jokes”
tire = tired
yes,well delivered - but I would argue it was the shock value that captured the attention of we conservatives. I was forced to watch parts of the show due to my wife & girls interest and expected the usual pot-shots at all things wholesome, normal, and conservative. But lo and behold, some chappy British dude shows up and has the Hollywood royalty squirming in their seats - I loved it!
Hollywood egos are as big the planet but as thin as air. Most were in therapy in a fetal position the day after the Global Awards. Although, I felt bad for Robert Downey, Jr. because he has fought a hard battle and should be respected for the fight.
Yeah but those notes definitely struck a nerve with that crowd.
