Shore Up America's Air Superiority
Wall Street Journaal ^ | 1/17/2011 | Gary Schmitt and Thomas Donnelly

After the Chinese military tested its new stealthy fighter during U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates' visit to Beijing, most attention focused on whether or not President Hu Jintao had advance knowledge of the test. The fact that Mr. Hu appeared surprised when Mr. Gates brought it up led to speculation on the relative independence of the PLA and its potential role in next year's change in China's leadership. These are obviously important issues but they should not make us lose sight of the test itself and the central fact that the balance of air power in the region is leaning increasingly in favor of the Chinese.

For the first time since the end of the Cold War, the U.S. and its allies face a competitor that can call into question what has been the American military's ace-in-the-hole—its supremacy in the skies. The test of a fifth generation fighter is not the only reason for this change in the regional balance of power. There are numerous contributing factors.

I told a friend that we should just go ahead and have a nuclear exchange with China before they get strong enough to destroy us. He wasn’t amused, but after a pause, he agreed.

We are going to have a war with China. The communist/dictatorship ambition is too great for us not to. Sadly, the longer we wait, the more deaths and destruction that will result.

That said, no, I don’t want a nuclear attack even on our number one enemy. Strategically, it makes sense, but practically and humanitarianly, it does not.

Our only hope is the return of Christ.

Like was said at Pearl Harbor, praise the lord and pass the ammunition.

Another “best hope” is Japan. She could be a great
counterbalance to China, but Japan will HAVE to re-arm and her people and the rest of Asia will have to be ok with that.

I grew up concerned about Japan arming up, but now, it might be the only check on China. What a tangled web we weaved, when we could have just taken over the world after WWII and forced freedom and Liberty on all the dictators around the planet. oops.
