I’ll bet that p.o.s. cost us taxpayers at least a million dollars per day.

Not even close!

Dream Job – Spending Queen

Pelosi’s Speakership: $5.34 Trillion in New Debt — Or $3.66 Billion Per Day

It must be the most incredible job in the world. You get to stay at a $10,000 per night hotel in Hawaii right before you leave your job (on tax payer’s dime), fly on your own jet to and from work (from the California to DC and back), and get to spend like there’s no tomorrow.

Former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, had accumulated during her 1,461 days as speaker over $3.6 billion per day. That’s right… three point six billion.

As the 52nd Speaker of the House Pelosi presided over the largest increase which was more than the first 49 speakers combined.

Here’s a breakdown of the numbers for the the 50th, 51st and 52nd Speakers.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (52nd Speaker of the House)

Jan. 4, 2007 $8,670,596,242,973.04

Jan. 4, 2011 $14,014,049,043,294.41

New debt added: $5,343,452,800,321.37

Total days served: 1,461 days

Debt added per day: $3,657,394,113.84

Speaker Dennis Hastert (51st Speaker of the House)

Jan. 6, 1999 $ 5,615,428,551,461.33

Jan. 3, 2007 $8,677,214,255,313.07

New debt added: $3,061,785,703,851.74

Total days served: 2,920

Debt added per day: $ 1,048,556,747.89

Speaker Newt Gingrich (50th Speaker of the House)

Jan. 4, 1995 $4,801,793,426,032.89

Jan. 3, 1999 $ 5,614,217,021,195.87

New debt added: $812,423,595,162.98

Total days served: 1,461

Debt added per day: $556,073,644.88

Not a great track record. Let’s hope the new Speaker of the House gets his act together and actually does something about reducing this massive spending problem.

Great post, IM—lots of valuable information in a very accessible form. It’s a keeper.

Otoh, RS_Rider was only talking about the special perks of Obama’s lavish *personal* lifestyle. For instance, the date nights to NYC; the joyrides on AFI, the countless vacations, the over-the-top parties, the near-weekly golf outings, the record numbers of paid attendants and personal staff, etc. etc.

Fwi, RS_Rider, I think a million a day is very conservative. Add it all up, and I bet it’s far above and beyond that.
