ABC Fuels Myth Discourse Caused Shooting, Sawyer Astounded by Falling Support for Gun Control
News Busters ^ | 1/17/11 | Brent Baker

“The country is pretty unified behind the idea that President Obama found the right words, the right tone at the right time,” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos announced Monday night in touting how a new ABC News/Washington Post poll found “78 percent approve of how he handled” the Tucson shooting, in contrast to Sarah Palin, “not so much, only 30 percent approve of her response.”

When Stephanopoulos noted “the support for stricter gun control has dropped over the last few years,” anchor Diane Sawyer expressed astonishment: “Stricter has dropped?” Instead of detailing that trend, Stephanopoulos concentrated on some specific policies with overwhelming support.

The ABC duo ignored how their poll advanced a false media narrative in asking: “As you may know, a gunman shot a U.S. Congress member and 18 other people in Arizona late last week. Is it your impression that the political discourse in this country did or did not contribute to this incident?” [PDF rundown of the poll]

That Arizona fune-rally was damn Orwellian... the statists in the DOJ and Homeland Security read to us from the Bible (what a load of B.S.) and then the Great Prez. spoke to us little rabble rousers about the need for CIVILITY.

Screw them. I give Obummer an F for his creepy POS address.

I just want to hit the target.

That's what it's all about, Bronzy. That's gun control right there. :^)

That is why I go there. The range is so cool. The images keep coming closer and closer. However, wearing all of the safety gear sort of makes it different than reality.

Be glad for the hearing part. My ears still ring from all the times I had shooting when I was a pup.

This thread has gone haywire as evidenced by the posters topic. ABC did have issues with the polls. But they found their breath in the new gun control laws to be introduced.

One of the comments after the linked article I find rather depressing.

The poster claims to now see that Palin can never win the election because her approval ratings are so low. Apparently the poster knows this because of the polls helpfully supplied by the liberal media.

In the linked article, the same liberal media is using their polls to establish that a majority of Americans support more gun control. That is almost certainly a lie. If that were the case we wouldn't be seeing more and more pro-gun Democrats being elected.

If the majority of Americans support gun control, then we can anticipate seeing the Republican-controlled House of Representatives passing new infringements. I hope not.

(Poking head up) Is it safe to come out now? Yeh. Firearms terminology pedants are worse than grammar nazis. I oughta know.

That’s pretty sad to discover about you, Bill. And I always had you figured out to be a pretty nice guy. You know, that toad that shot up those people in Tucson fancied himself a “grammar Nazi.”

That’s funny. It didn’t break my heart. I know how to use my strap.

I didn’t realize Bill thought wanting to keep the proper distinction between a “clip” and a “magazine” was being pedantic. He always seemed like a good guy in the past, too. My heart’s not breaking either, but it never feels good to have to say goodbye to a friend....

Calling someone a pendantic is as bad as calling him a grammar Nazi on FR.

I don’t think so, at least not very often. I try not to do that, but apparently sometimes I still do....

I have often spelled words incorrectly here while hurrying and not doing spell check. Dollar as doller, taxes as taxis, bullet as bullit for example. It, also, has to do with my hillbilly way of talking. My grocery cart is a buggy. My grocery bag is a sack. If I stayed in CT, I guess the word idea would be idear. Too many years in TN. A far tar is a fire tower.

I was referring to me, actually, no offense. And I'm a heckuva grammar and spelling nazi too, I just never post about it. I'm still working on the mind control thing, though.

BTW, Loughner wasn't alone in his conviction that thought can be controlled by grammar. The whole political correctness movement on the Left is driven by the conviction that by controlling vocabulary they're controlling language and hence controlling thought. Some surprisingly educated people - mostly postmodernists - fail to draw the distinction. George Lakoff - the "Tea Party Murders" guy - has made a career out of it.

This one doesn't fall under that category, though. There isn't any political gain by calling magazines, magazines, but there is by calling abortion "pro-choice".

Hmm...now this post is pedantic... ;-)

I agree with everything you say there, so I guess the pedantic shoe fits me as well....no offense intended.

You feel bad, but how do you think I feel after all my enbloc clips for my M1 Garand have turned into magazines without my knowing it.
