The smell is hard to describe. Kind of musty like a wet dog.

That’s a good question and hard to answer. Best description I can think of is that it’s very pungent with a sickeningly strong aroma of rotting vegetation.

The ones we’ve had this past year in New England (found a few this winter still) smell like rotting bananas. They are disgusting.

It’s a sickly sweet smell like a batch of perfume that spoiled. When it is strong enough it makes you nauseous.
