Sen. Jim DeMint, the conservative king-maker who initally backed Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams to fill Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s Senate seat, is now openly testing the reception for other candidates.

DeMint's backing of Michael Williams was in '09 if KBH had resigned her seat to run for Gov. She didn't. This '11 Senate race is a new race and DeMint is assessing whether Michael Williams, whom he still loves, is the best candidate. We'll know soon.
