Yes, California is proof that my fear has a foundation and Bush’s optimism doesn’t.
The Bushes display the sort of woolly headed sentimentalism that passes for thought among liberals.
They feel benevolent in opening wide their country’s doors to an unending tide of the world’s poor, especially the poor that share no cultural affinity with the historic American people.
Conservatives once used the lamp of experience to guide their feet. Experience has shown that the strong latino culture of Mexico and points south continues unabated when it is transplanted into the US. It colonizes rather than assimilates.
California was a golden land for Americans a generation ago. In my time here it has been transformed into a multilingual, multicultural mess that Americans look to move away from. And a lot of the decline in California is a direct result of the huge tide of illegal aliens from Mexico, a situation facilitated by the likes of George Bush.
