Fairness Doctrine fight goes on
Politico ^ | 1/16/11 | Keach Hagey

When some liberals called for reining in harsh political rhetoric after the Arizona shootings, Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) took it one step further. He called for bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, in what was widely considered an attempt to clamp down on talk radio. A week later, those calls have abated, and no one is seriously pursuing the idea of returning to the long-defunct policy, which required media on the public airwaves to present both sides of controversial political issues. Not Clyburn, not another Democrat who echoed his call for regulatory remedies, Rep. Louise Slaughter (N.Y.), and not the Federal

Apply it to movies, TV and “news” and we’ll talk.

As long as Rush, Levine, Gallagher, et. al. get to sit on the committee that decides how it applies to a given radio show, TV show, "news" program, movie, etc. Can't have the liberals stacking the deck. But of course that's what they want to do.

Prediction, we'll never, not in our lifetimes, see anything like a "fairness doctrine" applied fairly to all media as you suggest. That's probably a good thing, I think I'd rather go with a free market balance rather than an imposed solution. Just so long as the "solution" isn't only imposed on talk-radio.

Demand a conservative PBS and NPR and half of the cable news. That’ll shut them up.

Fairness Doctrine: Let’s have Jim Clyburn speak for the Democrats AND then for the Republicans.

Problem solved.

The FCC just seized control of the internet.

They did this 9 months after the courts said specifically they didn't have that power.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

They are going to take our free speech.

We are going in to an election - one that will probably see Obama in a neck and neck race.

They are going to take our free speech.

They just have to keep their critics silent until the election is over.

This is what Marxists do.

0pansy is bypassing Congress and using the FCC

Cable TV is not ‘public airwaves’

TV broadcast to standard antennas is subject to ‘interference’ and ‘mobile radio leaking into audio’

If they thought the DOD and Pentagon could not be ‘compromised’ (they were wrong - the Chi-Coms hacked them bigtime)

Wait until 310 million people see what 0pansy is doing - and watch the fired and/or laid-off tekkies get on the case

Liberal education of the young gets old when you cannot get a job or even an interview

Lots of phone calls, FAXES, emails to the WH and .giv agencies and poiticians can shut down DC and every home state office in seconds
We do not want DU shut down or regulated

We do not agree on many things - but freedom is not one of them

[- but freedom [speech] is not one of them]

I would think the liberal sites would be as worried as we are. Honestly, I can’t imagine the liberal TV hosts want the Fairness Doctrine. They should be howling too.

The average person watches their news on the alphabet channels, ‘I think’. That’s why so many are misinformed.

“Apply it to movies, TV and “news” and we’ll talk.”

Exactly. Have Limbaugh on every night to comment on Couric’s ‘news’ presentations, as one example...

ABC 770am NYC used to rerun El Rushbo in the wee small hours

FOX News Channel has ‘Red Eye’ - a Conservative show at 3:00-4:00am ET - it has a huge audience - bigger that MSNBC, CNN, more all together

Yeah. But wouldn’t it be fun to put Sarah Palin in a chair next to Chrissy Mathews on a permanent basis? He’d blow his brains out.

Government banning conservative talk radio will start a shooting civil war. It’s as simple as that.

The FCC just seized control of the internet.

Couldn't Congress overrule the FCCs decision? Surely something can be done.

The FCC just ignored the Supreme Court.

What makes you think they would do what the Congress says?
