That would be up to the State of Arizona and what contingencies they have build into their statutes would be my guess.

It's similar to what happened with Tim Johnson in South Dakota after his brain aneurysm.
South Dakota was willing to go without a Senator for 9 months while Johnson recovered, rather than let the seat turn over to a Republican.

After she heals as much as is reasonably possible in the next 6 months, will she be able to represent her constituent as well as Byrd and Thurmond did in their last year(s)?
