The bottom line is that Congress didn’t achieve for military families what was gained for other American families, at least on adult dependent coverage, through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The armed services committees rejected adding young adult coverage as just another subsidized feature of the Tricare benefit. Doing so would have added $300 million a year to the burgeoning cost of military health care.
In debating national health reform in 2009, opponents had argued that a superior Tricare program should not be impacted in any way. Only later was it noted that military families were left behind on the coverage of dependent children out to age 26. ...

My guess is that there are very few military familes that contain 26 yo dependents.
So a bad policy writ larger would be better? Ok.
Probably true, but the point I note is that the Gum't has once again taken away from the Military community what it offers to everyone else. There are probably some families with children still in college, and I think they would have been already covered.
We need a new Gum't!

Tricare is bad enough. It takes care of my Alzheimer’s affected father. But, they are getting worse every day, and stripping coverage from those in need.
That’s a silly thing to guess.

The first question needing to be asked, of the x number of active duty and retired Tricare beneficiaries, how many of you would be willing to pay for the extension of benefits for children (there, is a wrong premise) up to the age of 26?
I’m betting less than one percent, and even if it was ten percent, it wouldn’t pass, the smell test, and didn’t. So congress still not listening to common sense much less reason.
No matter how one looks at those over 19 or 21, you are young adults, not children. Children are not allowed to drink alcohol or carry guns, as in join the military.
The “Prexisting Conditions” insurance isn’t going to be cheap either. It COULD be had before AT A PRICE. Now, I suppose you’ll be forced to get it AT A PRICE, or else pay a “fine” or go to jail.
Insurance actuarial tables don't matter to the Gum't. It's not about healthcare. It IS about control of our lives...

I agree. Only a non self supporting 26-year old is probably a ward of the state. ——Speaking as a retired reservist about to go on Medicare/Tricare
My thoughts are that I’ve raised them to be adults by the time they are 18; paying for their 4-year college degree; anything beyond that, they are on their own. That includes healthcare, room and board, a job; in other words, life. Time to grow up and take responsibility, kiddos.
The TRUTH about this fact always seems to trickle out in cuts to military programs, cuts to the size of the military, and hidden "gems" like this story on an aspect of TriCare.
The left has LITTLE use for the military, except to the extent they can have their Man-Child in the oval office LOOK presidential by PLAYING Commander-In-Chief, and of course, to the extent they can USE the military for their social engineering (women in combat roles, gays openly serving - or is that therving?).
Of course, IF they could ever get the military on their side as Socialists, they'd have a perfect tool for the cleansings that the Communists they would become seem to think is necessary (with admirers of viscious left-wing mass-murderers IN the White House, what's NEXT in Obama's "fundamental transformation of America"?).
An American military carrying out the orders of an American "Mao" or "Stalin" should never be able to happen, thanks to the inherent nature of MOST of those who serve. They are PATRIOTS who love their country, unlike most left-wingers who DESPISE their country and Constitution.
To help ensure our government can never again use our military against we citizens (already been done - Bonus army in D.C., Waco, etc.), we must prevent the left from further diluting and twisting our education system.
We must help organizations like the Oathkeepers do their good work.
We must guard against attempts by the left to institute a draft which is Gerry-rigged to enlist THUGS who would willingly vote for fellow THUGS in an out-of-control central government - as long as they get theirs.
How might the left Gerry rig military recruiting to fundamentally change our military so that it supports their goals?
They might try and lower the I.Q. requirements, allow those with criminal convictions and extensive drug use, and require that - out of "fairness" - inner-city minority "job-seekers" be an inordinate percentage of all enlistees [instead of taking the best and most suited, no matter what color or race].
Obama already wants, essentially, a civilian "army" (New black panthers, ACORN?) just as strong and funded as our military. I'm sure he and his fellow Socialists would love to have an already established, funded, and ARMED U.S. military on their side.

I should remind my “Military Community” friends that “everyone else” does not include the vast majority of taxpaying Americans that pay for it all.
I see the fracturing of interests to “government employees” and “military community” and excluding the actual folks who must pay for this for government/military, yet cannot pay for it for themselves as extremely dangerous for the republic.
I served in the military - and I always felt that a “military community” that sets itself apart and above taxpaying citizens is making a mistake - and is also making an implicit threat against those citizens if they don’t get what they want in pay and benefits.

Military’s health care was “NOT an approved health care” under the original law. Skelton was trying to change that, I do not know if he succeeded.
Nothing is too good for our men and women in the military, so that is what Kongress gives them...NOTHING!
With two in that position I’m up on it.
They are both still on tri-care because they are still in school and single.
But after highschool you have to produce school enrolement forms to continue the coverage - and I “think” it’s up to 22 - a four year degree. I need to check as thats next year for them.
And they are thinking of upping the fees for tri-care.
Sure is expensive for tri-care as a “free medical benifit for life” program - but since it was just promised and not written down the government was off the hook.
Our Daughter was covered by our Tricare while in college to the age of 23. At the point she turned 23, we could keep her on but it would cost $365 per month.
