Makes me wonder if maybe he injured himself after he left the rally, just so he could bask in the spotlight. Maybe he wasn't even shot.

Not petty at all. From an article I read last night, it seems he skinned his knee diving for cover.

And from the story I read, he skedaddled out of the scene of the carnage pronto, not stopping to offer aid to any of the victims (not stated in so many words in the article, but this is what I concluded); but choosing to take himself to the hospital so the docs could take care of his booboo.

Reminds me of all the people who show up at bus crashes, swearing they were on the bus when the accident happened and now they have whiplash.
