How about a return to the food distribution program. Rather than getting to chose what gets purchased, pick out the nutricious food stuffs, put them in a box and deliver to the needy families.
The IRS today also announced that lower income people would be receiving their tax refunds directly to their debit cards. What they meant to say was the direct welfare subsidiary paid by the IRS will be funneled directly to those receiving it. Now splain this to me: How dows someone with no income have a debit card in the first place? Second, since one can receive their lawful refund by direct deposit, why do we need to make these direct deposits anyway or are they saying based on last year, we will on Jan 1st, wire what we believe you earned income tax credit will be? Wanna bet it is the latter?? Just another tax fraud orchestrated by the great provider in the White House IMO.
Because the school lunch (breakfast, and now dinner) program and foodstamps are just as much a subsidy program to big agri-business corporations like Con-Agra as they are a socialist vote buying scheme.
Debit cards are now the weapon of choice in the redistribution of funds, nowadays. Food stamps, welfare, and unemployment benefits (which are NOT redistribution/welfare) etc. are all now loaded directly on debit cards, first off to save the gov’t money. But also to erase the “stigma” of handing over food stamps at the cash register.
I don’t mind helping those temporarily down on their luck; I am unemployed myself (and NOT on any federal programs). But I am starting to believe that once you have been on food stamps, for example, by Year Four or so, you should be handed actual food stamps to deal with. At that point, a little bit of “stigma” might not be a bad idea.
I know a woman who gets $900 a month in food stamps AND free food from a food pantry monthly AND the kids get fed at school for “free” AND they get “free” school packages each year-backpacks, notebooks etc....they also get “gift cards” for school clothes and shoes and coats...
Her husband works and her and her three kids are on Medicaid-the kids are teens, so now they’re getting into glasses and braces etc.
The kids are just a meal ticket; she has had a few jobs over the last ten years, but not enough to count. She plays the system so well, it is astounding to me.
