IIRC those were both specifically listed on the last attempted AWB, along with the M1 carbine. IIRC, the Garand was either not on the list, or specifically exempted. Not sure about the M1A - I think that it was allowed, but not new mags of more than 10-round capacity. Of course, Springfield had made millions of the 20-rounders before the ban took effect, so you got 2 with the rifle (if new in box), and you could buy more (for the highly absurd price of about $50 a pop). I don't think that it will matter much anyhow, as such a proposed ban should not even come up for a vote in the House...and it had better %$%&*(@^ NOT come up for a vote - YOU HEAR THAT, BOEHNER!!!
