MIAMI Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush told a Republican gathering Thursday evening that the time is now to connect better with Latino voters, not two months before the general election.
Bush is co-chairing a conference Friday of the new Hispanic Action Network, part of the GOP's latest efforts to forge ties with the growing number of Latino voters. The conference will focus on trade, immigration, media outreach and education.
"Typically what happens in politics is you're working hard and you say, 'Oh gosh, we better start working at campaigning in the Hispanic community,' and it's like Sept. 15," he told the crowd at the elegant Biltmore Hotel in the Miami suburb of Coral Gables. "This is not about politics. This is about the conservative cause. If you look over the horizon over the next 10 or 20 years...without an active involvement of Hispanics, we will not be the governing philosophy."
The Hispanic Action Network is backed by former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, whose American Action Network funneled more than $30 million in campaign funds to Republicans in about 30 congressional races last year.
With the Latino population growing in swing states such as Nevada, Colorado and Florida, Republicans need to chip away at Hispanics' overall 2-1 preference for Democrats to have any hope of capturing the presidency.
Democrats are confident their party's efforts on health care, education and the economy will continue to appeal to Hispanic voters, whom they believe have been turned off by Republican campaign attacks on illegal immigrants.
But Bush and other Republicans have long maintained their party is a natural fit for Hispanics, particularly recent immigrants. They cite the party's social conservatism, anti-abortion stance and support for private school vouchers and lower taxes. Voters last year elected several Latino Republicans to prominent posts, including U.S.

Amazing that Jeb can say that with a straight face.
I’ll do my part and support Marco Rubio for whenever he decides to run for POTUS.
I read Jeb Bush’s wife is from Mexico which might explain his love affair with that country
As early as 15 years ago, when he was my representative, I was a regular at Newts Town Hall Meetings where I spoke in support of the FairTax. 70% or more of the others who took the mike were visibly ANGRY ABOUT THE FAILURE TO STOP THE GROWING FLOW OF ILLEGALS! (While he DID and probably still DOES support the illegal invasion, at several sessions clearly pandering to the crowd -- Newt suggested the 100,000 IRS agents be given weapons and sent down to the border with Mexico.) That certainly works for me.
Under Bush, that flow became a TORRENT! Because Obozo who takes his orders from George Soros -- has OTHER reasons for overwhelming the system (can you say Cloward and Pivin?), the torrent has become a flood.
For different reasons, neither Bush nor Obozo give a damn WHAT we thought!
DO TRY TO HOLD THAT THOUGHT OVER THE TRADITIONAL 20 NANOSECONDS AND RETAIN IT THROUGH THE NEXT ELECTION CYCLE.
In ABSTRACT terms, this is the conspiratorial view of whats going on vis-à-vis the INVASION of the illegals here:
The current alien invasion from the south serves BOTH the elites who run Mexico and many of the OTHER states of Central and South America -- and the political ruling class who increasingly run the United States:
· It takes pressure off the 60 or so families who control approximately 80% of the wealth in Mexico. Without the northern safety valve (the United States) for their poor, those poor MIGHT be inclined to do what Americas early colonists found it necessary to do: Revolt! Parenthetically, that would be MY suggestion for them: Instead of fleeing here and converting here to a larger, more poverty infested version of there, they ought to stay there and make there into their version of here, whatever that would be. Revolutions ARE messy and there are no guarantees that they will produce the desired result. But according to one T. Jefferson they are often necessary. Never forget that THIS country was born in revolution!
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson ·
· For the NAFTA/CAFTA coveting US national ruling class especially those who, in varying degrees, quest after some sort of One-World utopia run by guess who? it provides yet another level of insecurity and tension among the indigenous populace which can be used to justify new and more draconian limits to freedom here. Instead of securing the borders, allow millions of illegals to come in and when the natives become alarmed, require a national ID card. Your papers, please! will soon become a phrase familiar to all. Its Mr. Franklins trade of freedom for (false) security. Its also the time-tested Hegelian Dialectic the One-Worlders have successfully worked like a rented mule.
While they occasionally squabble among themselves, the elites of history have ALL had one thing in common: They will do ANYTHING to remain in charge. And throughout that history, except for the 230 year-old experiment in freedom called America, most of the men who have walked the earth have lived as slaves to these elites whether they call themselves kings, emperors, potentates, sultans, czars or presidents. Get ready, folks. Unless some SERIOUS changes are made and the handful of Americans who CARE about liberty get involved, that history will almost certainly repeat here. Now for the SPECIFICS of the matter: My take on Bush's role in all of this was: 1. His long and apparently positive experience with the large hispanic population in Texas is largely responsible for his inaction on this alien invasion. And why wouldn't HIS experience with them be positive as he traveled in the highest, best-educated circles among them, not the Hispanic gang bangers and pine-straw spreaders... 2. Boy Jorge Bush was cared for by a Hispanic nanny for many years while his daddy was running Zapata Oil (into the ground). 3. His brother Jeb is married to a native of Mexico (the daughter of a migrant worker) and his nieces and nephews are mixed blood. And before you scream "ethnocentric bigot" at me, there's nothing inherently wrong with that. But that fact -- and items 1 and 2 DO predispose him to a warm and fuzzy feeling for folks from south of the Rio Grande. And if -- in some strange and metastasizing American desire for a new royal family dynasty -- Jeb or his son should win the White House in some future presidential beauty contest designed to divert the American electorate every four years, I'd bet that HIS activities toward this alien invasion will make W's behavior look like a warm-up exercise. Any vestige of Western European culture -- the culture MY great-grandparents and probably yours brought here after standing in line at places like Ellis Island, being interrogated, deloused and recorded -- will be a distant memory IF its remembered at all.
You are right. “Reaching out”, nowadays, means promising benefits. The GOP just doesn’t do that. Nor should they. That is so baraq o’chavez.
We have over reached out, Jeb. Now please go away.
Patches Kennedy and Jeb Bush. Is this the best we can do? The country is doomed.
Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Cuba, yada yada yada ... what does it matter... Our Politicos are of the same stripe... AMERICANS - born and raised in every American State MATTER LESS than imports from other countries — no matter if they arrived here legally or ILLEGALLY ... Jeb Bush is just like his brother GW BUSH who was tainted and scared by the fact he was raised by a Mexican - most likely Illegal Alien Nanny ... AND GEORGIE just could not get over it... NOW we have obama - who was NOT BORN AMERICAN and he is MUCH WORSE...
Good God Help Us rid ourselves of these partial Americans ... Presidents should be Through and Through AMERICAN - First and Foremost... but alas they are not ... not by birth and sometime Not by marriage or upbringing...
We'd be a lot better off if the Bush women had done their own housework, raised their own children, and cooked their own food.
As it is, they were lazy and needed to justify their laziness by trying to give away the store to their house help.
GO AWAY.
If you're so dang bored, mow your own lawns, mop your own floors and tell the twins to learn to make their own beds.
Dear Jeb:
kindly move to Mexico and lecture them on how they need to welcome a few million Central American illegal aliens to their paradise of a country.
“Jeb is speaking the truth because we do not enforce our borders nor our immigration laws.”
Oh brother. Your “truth” is akin to the boy who shoots his parents and then pleads for mercy because he’s an orphan.
Jeb and his fool of a brother are the very reason our immigration laws aren’t enforced. You don’t get enforcement when your highest elected officials are subverting the law.
Spoken as clearly as Terry Anderson would have done it.
Am so sick of this herd mentality. Please flush these people. They don’t realise they have become obsolete.
Just another Bush! Please no more nonsense about how he is more conservative then his brother!
There are plenty of Hispanic American voters who don’t like the open border/socialism/cartel business and al quaida qauida rearing its head in the USA. The mob in charge of California Hispanic politics have so muddied and bloodied the water that Jeb needs to run there and see what he can do. That would be interesting.
F you Bush and you latino outreach, which is just code words for “suck up to illegals”.
I wish they would leave the stage.
Amnesty for law-breakers and/or finding excuses and blaming others for law-breaking is the Progressive mindset.
We have been relegated to excusing ALL misconduct, blaming others and making the perp's the victims. Think about it; NO ONE is reponsible for their deviance, in the Progressives' view, and it's ALWAYS someone else's fault they broke the law.....
