I’m betting that only since the Clinton Assault weapons ban or whatever it was expired.
When I bought my SA XD-40 it came with 10 rd. mags which SA promptly replaced with the proper 12 rd. units.
A gun is a gun, deadly to innocents in the wrong hands. Let’s keep the Glocks out of the hands of known nutballs and leave people like me alone so we can try to protect ourselves and the innocents.
I’ve carried for over 30 years and have never presented, though I considered it a couple of times. Honest gunowners are not a threat, except to the baddies. At the point that ever happens I will be amazed if I have to use all the ammo I have. God willing, I’ll have the presence of mind to limit my output to the scumbags and have true aim.
But, you never know how an encounter like that will go. I don’t spray lead, I TARGET and squeeze, at least at the local range.
Oh yeah, that woman might still have her husband if he had been well trained and packing. Guess hi-cap mags is all she hears when the subject of firearms comes up.
Woman, if your man had been able to protect himself he might still be around, even against attackers armed with a lot of ammo. Since stoopid gun laws kept him from being armed one can only assume he was in a wrong place with no protection. Or maybe he was a p*ssy and would have failed to be able to prevent that tragedy, who knows.

Unless you are on a 270 range, your local shooting line is anti-training for defense pistol. No crim is going to just let you stand there, adopt a stance, carefully raise from a table a loaded weapon, wait for you to size up the target, aim and squeeze off a round at a known and standardized distance in ideal light. Unless all you care about is targets, the standard bench shooting does nothing but reinforce every bad habit one can make in defense shooting.
Now if the rangemaster would let you, draw from covered small-of-back holster, shoot while on the run to a low obstacle, using your weak hand to shoot at an unknown distance and a partially visible and moving target while people are running around you screaming - all in bad light, then you would get an idea of how that sort of encounter might go. Extra credit if people are shooting at you and you're in great pain.
IDPA or IPSC if you can't go to Thunder Ranch.
