Clinton made popular the term “focus like a laser beam” during his first state of the union batch of lies.

He was talking about the economy but damn if I ain’t heard the term used a hundred different times on a hundred different things.

If it ain’t used for the economy I guess it is misused, right?
There is an insidious PC on the Right as well.

Since I think I'm a little too "harsh" on the use of the term blood libel, I'll throw in this link to a blog that I believe makes a pretty good case for the use of the term "blood libel", which I believe was posted BEFORE Sarah used the term.

Those looking for good arguments for the word, as well as a better way I think to have introduced the word, should read this blog. I'll quote only a small part.

Blood Libel:

To blame conservatives for the actions of an individual who has been described by his school acquaintances as either an apolitical pothead or a left-wing pothead is the worst kind of dishonesty. In fact, it bears a remarkable similarity to the “blood libel” that has for centuries been a staple of anti-Semitism. The truth or even plausibility of the charge seems irrelevant — the charge seems presumed true from the “fact” that conservatives are just bad people. Their reasoning is ultimately circular — conservatives are bad people, therefore they are responsible for the Tucson attack, therefore that proves what horrible people they are. This is bigotry, not analysis.
By using the phrase "bears a remarkable similarity", the author can invoke the emotion of the phrase, draw a parallel, and introduce the analogy without appropriating the phrase or suggesting equivalence in degree.

So if Palin had simply said "remarkably similar to blood libel", rather than just using the word, I do think she would have avoided a good deal of criticism.

Gov Palin’s statement was well thought out and illustrates her empathy for the victims of this horrific tagedy. I also note that the truth of this ‘blood libel’ puts her detractors off their game and they can only scream their disapproval. The truth hurts. The truth is that a deranged nut killed six people in Arizona including a precious 9 year old girl and a Federal Judge. He also wounded many others including a Congressman whom we all have praying for. To Blame Sarah Palin or the Tea Party movement for this is indeed blood libel.

Regards,

Liberty

FACT: If Sarah Palin, her husband, or one of her children were killed by a hate-filled leftist the “Drive By” media would spin and report it as if “well...she got what she deserved” because of something she said or did. Only LIBERALS, DEMOCRATS, SOCIALISTS, and MUSLIMS are pure in thought and deed.

Sarah Palin from the moment she began to speak on the stage announcing her candidacy as VP with John McCain has surprised America, with her values, her speech, her intelligence, her moxie and her beauty.

Hurray for SARAH PALIN. Thank You, Father God for bringing Sarah Palin forth at this time in America. Hers is a positive voice for America and not the rhetoric we get 24 hours a day from the biased, agenda following propaganda of our medias.

We are under all assault.

Make no mistake. Our freedom of speech is under all out attack, as are we and everything we hold dear. The purpose of this assault is to silence our spokesmen and destroy the person the left most fears: Sarah Palin.

We have been fighting back, but the attackers have not wavered. The attack continues unabated, and future attacks are certain. The stakes could not be higher.

Sarah Palin has now delivered the DEFINING RESPONSE.

The latest attack is, in fact, a blood libel.

Sarah Palin’s choice of terms has changed the terms of this debate. WE are now on the offense. She will be attacked for her use of the term, but every attack on her and her choice of terms will simply strengthen the undeniable fact that the reason we are being attacked is based on a lie.

The Anointed One sent his congratulations to Sheriff Dupnik in advance of his speech in Arizona today. It does not matter what the congratulations were for. The REAL message was that the sheriff’s outrageous comments meet with the approval of the “President” of the United States.

Regardless of what the Anointed One intended to say today, he knows his words will be compared with what Sarah Palin said this morning. He may take the bait and respond with his own attack on Sarah Palin, or he may slink away with mere platitudes. But one thing we can count on: He will NOT call off the “dogs of war” his minions have unleashed.

Personally, I think we are seeing history in the making. The left has gone too far and they are NOT backing down. THEY picked this fight. This time we are fighting back.

Anyone who actually watches Sarah Palin’s video will conclude that her words and the way they were delivered were Presidential. (Even those who complain about the pitch of her voice will be silenced.)

This may very well be the defining moment that historians of the future say gave us President Palin.

Let’s all pray that we still have a country two years from now for her to be President of.

Sarah's video response is more Presidential that anything Obummer can come up with.

With each passing day, my understanding of the HATRED thrown at Sarah by the Left and their Media lapdogs is lessened, not increased.

They fixate on two words, Blood Libel, and ignore everything she says about the exceptional-ism of our wonderful country.

Intellectual dishonesty trumps common sense every time the Democrats try. They know that a certain segment of our society are dumber than a box of rocks and they waste no time in drawing them in when opportunity knocks.

Good for her, but conservatives are on the defensive again. We always allow our political opponents to shape and drive the debate, we’re always responding to their accusations. We should be launching a media counteroffensive about how the Left is attempting to undermine fundamental rights - the First and Second Amendments.

"Ms. Palin’s use last year of a map with crosshairs hovering over a number of swing districts, including that of Gabrielle Giffords, had increasingly become the symbol of that overheated rhetoric."

This is a classic example of a liberal writer stating his opinion as if it's a fact. That is a very frequent tactic used by liberal writers to slant "news" articles against conservatives and subtly attack conservatives. There is no factual basis for this statement he made, and it DOES NOT BELONG IN A NEWS ARTICLE. This is his opinion only and it should only be included in an editorial. I for one, do not view the crosshair survey symbol that was used on Palin's website as any kind of a symbol of "overheated rhetoric."

If any of this is unclear to you punk writers at the NY Times, feel free to send me an email on this site and I'll be happy to spend some of my time explaining this to you and educating you on journalistic ethics. That goes for any of you other MSM punk writers who have also been misstating you opinions on the use of this surveyor's symbol as if your opinions are facts. I'll be happy to contribute some of my time to educate you as well.

In and interview with The Caucus on Monday, potential 2012 rival Tim Pawlenty, the former Republican governor of Minnesota, said he would not have produced such a map.

I always hesitate to eliminate someone from contention for one statement, but if this is an accurate portrayal of what he said, Pawlenty is about as presidential as Clarabelle the Clown. The media is falsely accusing millions of Americans of helping kill six people and all he has to say is that he wouldn't have had a map like that? Wuss.

Well, thanks to the PDS RINOs on Free Republic, the MSM can accurately claim that the irrational hate for SP is bipartisan.

Kind of like Lindsay Graham who helps to make much of the Leftist agenda in the US Senate “bipartisan.”
