The Media Has Declared... WAR!
The American Thinker ^ | January 12, 2011 | John Fricke

Posted on 01/12/2011 2:06:30 AM PST by Scanian

Newsrooms and hospitals have one major thing in common: the "hush" is the loudest thing anyone ever hears. The "hush" is the moment when normal activity stops cold for an announcement of major events that will entirely reshape any usual activity. While both newsrooms and hospitals stop on that kind of news -- and then, following it, race into a whirlwind of overdrive -- the similarities end there.

Hospitals gird for the incoming and the flood of bad news to follow; most newsrooms do not. In a newsroom, tragic events are met with a different vibe: an electric jolt that energizes the room with a sense of self-importance.

The shot of adrenaline that surges through a newsroom is fascinating to watch. After the initial rush, the newsroom is never satisfied. There is a reason why the term "news junkie" exists; there is always the next twist, the next piece of fresh information, the next set of numbers (think of the alcohol shots of "news" that an election night provides with its changing and evolving big story).

That's the backdrop of what took place on Saturday. The initial news breaks, the "what." A shooting in a crowd in Arizona...might be, yes, now confirmed...a U.S. representative. Followed shortly by the scale of the attack, where it occurred, and the emergency response taking place. Once the "what" is established, then the other ws come into play. Journalists live by an old truism, the rule of ws -- Who, What, When, Where, Why. The change to the profession over the past thirty-pluls years I have been in it is the last w, the "why." The first four are always the easiest. Those were known within minutes of the story breaking. But the "why" takes time, and news in the 24/7 world of news today...

Last Saturday, journalism died. The media openly declared war on free speech and the 1st Amendment it was sworn to protect.

I've come to the same conclusion.

The longer the media insist on trying to place the blame on the Tea Party and talk radio, the more they are destroying their credibility.

One of the reasons, though, is the fact that conservatives stood up for themselves. The media has won these pissing wars in the past because either a.) there was no effective way for the right to respond (e.g., Limbaugh had to carry the whole burden after Oklahoma City, nobody else had a voice) or b.) our side refused to defend itself (e.g., GWB).

This time, the entire right -- talk radio, the internet, all of us -- stood up on our hind legs and said "Hell, no. Not this time."

And we've won.

What's more, they have lost. And they've frittered away so much of their credibility, I don't believe the media has anywhere near the power to move minds it had only two years ago.

The President flies in today to try to pull the Liberals chestnuts out of the fire. AF1 should be painted black and should slowly circle over the state for a while before making its landing. Like a vulture descending to pick the carcass of this horrible tragedy.
Prepare for the MSM Obamagasm about his speech. It will be hailed far and wide as ‘The Answer’. The swooning and gushing will be unprecedented.

We learned the W’s in high school. The problem is the What and the Why. They choose what to report and lie about why it happened.

The swooning and gushing will be unprecedented.

On that, we can rely. A "watershed moment", no doubt.

And, I'm guessing, they won't move the needle.

Yes they have declared war...a long time ago. Sadly, the U.S. public is JUST NOW beginning to realize WHO the enemy is.

He forgot the part about how just after the newsroom hush, all the 9-5 managers decide to stay late, order stacks of pizza and “play newspaper.”

I saw it more as a declaration of war on conservatism. I also found it very strange how this unfolded so efficiently. So much so, it wreaks of conspiracy. I do not put it past our enemies (liberals and liberal media) to plan something like this at the next (this) tragedy.

After the 2010 elections, the liberals freaked out, and this their means of trying to win back the center. Problem is the average American is smarter than they think.

Sure it was organized.

It wasn’t hard...just recycle the old, reliable “vast right-wing conspiracy” rhetoric and fit it to the Tucson situation and email it to the Dhimmi loyalists. Or blast fax the tailking points to them, if they still use faxes.

Within a couple of hours they were all singing out of the same “hymnbook.”

And they’ll turn it off when they are told to.

I agree. The MSM's credibility has been gradually eroding over a number of years, but pushing Barack Obama on us apparently was the last straw.

The left is revealing its propensity for delusion in concluding that Loughner was incited by right-wing dissent. Their anger at their defeat shows clearly; fear and desperation is what they exhibit here. Are they oblivious to the fact that their most prized weapon, the Mainstream Media, is not only failing to protect them, but may be literally blowing up in their faces?

Journalism went the way of Fortran. It is still taught in schools but has no use in society. Everything is an editorial yet it is done with a groupthink mentality.

We need for the msm to die already and the only way to do that is to take down the advertisers. I wonder what would happen if we had a tonal campaign to take down the slimes biggest advertiser.
