How low can Wikileaks go? Julian Assange’s sick attempt to exploit the Arizona shootings

In a press release late last night, Wikileaks made a sick attempt to link in the public mind the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords to widespread outrage in America over its recent leaking of hundreds of thousands of US government documents. Even for Julian Assange this is surely a low point in media manipulation, and here he is clearly mimicking the far Left’s ludicrous attempts to blame the Right for the Arizona shootings.

Here’s what the release, entitled “WikiLeaks: treat incitement seriously or expect more Gabrielle Gifford killing sprees” said:

WikiLeaks staff and contributors have also been the target of unprecedented violent rhetoric by US prominent media personalities, including Sarah Palin, who urged the US administration to “Hunt down the WikiLeaks chief like the Taliban”. Prominent US politician Mike Huckabee called for the execution of WikiLeaks spokesman Julian Assange on his Fox News program last November, and Fox News commentator Bob Beckel, referring to Assange, publicly called for people to “illegally shoot the son of a bitch.” US radio personality Rush Limbaugh has called for pressure to “Give [Fox News President Roger] Ailes the order and [then] there is no Assange, I’ll guarantee you, and there will be no fingerprints on it.”

And the piėce de resistance from Assange himself:

WikiLeaks spokesman Julian Assange said: “No organisation anywhere in the world is a more devoted advocate of free speech than Wikileaks but when senior politicians and attention seeking media commentators call for specific individuals or groups of people to be killed they should be charged with incitement — to murder. Those who call for an act of murder deserve as significant share of the guilt as those raising a gun to pull the trigger.”

Not surprising. He’s a leftist tool and they’re all the same.

WikiLeaks Founder Said to Fear ‘Illegal Rendition’ to U.S.

Assange lawyers highlight execution risk [Excerpt] In a skeleton summary of their defence against attempts by the Swedish director of public prosecution to extradite him, released on Tuesday, Assange’s legal team argue that there is a similar likelihood that the US would subsequently seek his extradition “and/or illegal rendition”, “where there will be a real risk of him being detained at Guantanamo Bay or elsewhere”.

“Indeed, if Mr Assange were rendered to the USA, without assurances that the death penalty would not be carried out, there is a real risk that he could be made subject to the death penalty. It is well known that prominent figures have implied, if not stated outright, that Mr Assange should be executed.” The 35—page skeleton argument was released by Mark Stephens, Assange’s lawyer, following a brief review hearing this morning at Belmarsh magistrates court, south London.

The WikiLeaks founder, who is currently on conditional bail while his extradition case is being considered, appeared for no more than 15 minutes in the dock, while supporters including Jemima Khan and Bianca Jagger looked on and waved support from the public gallery.....” [End Excerpt]

I see little difference in the mind-set of Julian Assange and Paul Krugman.

FWIW, I never thought Assange was in a position to disrupt the balance of things - for if he was, we’d never know about it. With that in mind, no doubt he’s caused unnecessary grief for undeserving individuals and groups.
