2 km or 1.5 miles isn't a safe distance IF the volcano blows like Mt. St. Helens or the old Krakatoa!
Ten times the distance is more like it.

I think it is too soon after 1883 for a major blow up. It says the ash is going up about 1,800 feet. Not very impressive. Bears watching however. There are some interesting things going on with 4 volcanos in Columbia.
