Dupnik's comments cheered many residents of this relatively liberal town. ... ...But it also horrified many conservatives.

It didn't horrify me. I thought he was talking through his 'donkey' and was a certified Moonbat - which it turns out, he is. But there was also something else. When he called Arizona the 'New Tombstone'.

I intermediately thought of Wyatt Earp and his brothers, along with Doc Holiday, and their 'battle' against the corrupt Sheriff, John Behan, who was btw, a Democrat and was in cahoots with the cattle thieving Clantons and 'The Cowboys'. So in one respect Dupnick was right.

He's a modern day version of Sheriff John Behan.
(maybe they're related?)

He did his job poorly and a lot of people are hurting because of it and his response is to blame someone else.

Here some info re the shooter’s family.

[Excerpted from WSJ]

“Father of Shooting Suspect May Issue Statement”

......... “Mr. Smith, who is 70 and has lived in a house across the street since 1972, said he didn’t know the couple’s last name until after Saturday’s rampage. And Mr. Loughner didn’t know his, he said. Still, he said he was probably one of Randy Loughner’s closest acquaintances in the neighborhood.

He said he believes Randy hasn’t worked since Jared was born. Amy had a steady job and Randy raised Jared, he said.

....It was Mr. Smith who told the Loughners what had happened Saturday. They returned from shopping, grocery bags in their peeling white Chevy truck, to find sheriffs’ cars parked in front of the house and deputies stringing up crime-scene tape.

Mr. Smith, who had seen the news on TV, walked up and told them their son was suspected in a mass shooting.

“She almost passed out right there,” Mr. Smith said. “He sat in the road with the tape up and cried.”

The sheriff has admitted that Loughner had had run-ins with the law before concerning death threats and his behavior at school.

He's doing some CYA now because if anyone looks too close at the lack of police work, he knows his office will be held accountable for this nutbag being on the loose to commit this crime.

his call for civility???

Depends on who hears it. His call for civility sounded like vitriol against the Right to me.

I agree. The Left is quick to have investigations and I think we need some here. The Left is pushing to slash our freedoms by hamstring talk radio and restricting gun ownership. We need to focus attenton on the real cause of this. And from things Sheriff Dupnik has said himself, we need to look at how his inaction and his verbal gaffs have contributed to this crime and incited and fanned negative political discord.

Odd?!?
There's another thread that says the Father worked for the County's Child Welfare Services Agency. Now if that's so and he knew his son was nuts, he has a big problem.

And all early reports have said one parent does work for the County in some way. Now if the Sheriff knew about the son too, he's in deep doo-doo too. It would/could also explain his, no facts, anti-right tirades -- 'Best defense is a good offense'.

Excerpted from the Bellingham, WA paper:

http://www.bellinghamherald.com/2011/01/10/1810146/loughners-former-classmates-say.html

...... “I said, ‘Guys, I hate to be the one to tell you, but he shot a bunch of people,’ “ Smith said late Monday afternoon in front of the Loughners’ house. Jared’s mother, he said, “she just come unglued.”

“We stood right out there and cried for an hour. I’m a softie,” Smith said. “A man needs compassion. He’s broken up about his son, but also about all those people who died.”

As their son appeared in federal court in Phoenix on Monday afternoon, the Loughners remained secluded in their home. Their son has been charged with murder and attempted murder in the rampage that left six dead and 14 wounded, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., who authorities say was the target of his attack.

“They’re in there now,” Smith said, just after bringing the couple their mail. “They’re both in there crying. He’s crying and hanging on to me and she’s not even out of bed. He worshipped the boy.”

It is not clear what the parents knew of their son’s troubles, but it was obvious to his fellow students at Pima Community College in Tucson last spring that something was wrong with Jared Loughner. He often laughed and muttered to himself. When he spoke, he was incoherent, or nonsensical. Classmates and professors assumed he was on drugs.

“If you’ve ever seen someone hallucinate, it was kind of like that,” said his classmate Lydian Ali, 26. “I never felt threatened by him.” But one woman dropped their poetry class because Loughlin’s behavior was so weird, Ali added.

Though many who know him said Loughner did not seem violent, others said he scared them. In recent months, the young man’s behavior and self-expression - both in the classroom and online, where he ranted about the government, U.S. currency and the constitutionality of certain institutions - seemed to be in a downward spiral.

“He had this kind of hysterical laugh. ... It was very creepy, very bizarre,” said Pima math professor Ben McGahee, who taught Loughner algebra last summer. “He even came out with some kind of random outbursts or remarks: ‘How can you deny math instead of accepting it?’ “ said McGahee, who assumed Loughner was high.

After Loughner scrawled “MAYHEM FEST!!!” across a paper, McGahee alerted a counselor.

Loughner continued attending class, and his behavior continued to cause alarm. At one point, he shaved his head. One of his responses to an algebra test question was “eat+sleep+brush teethequalsmath.”

The final straw came when Loughner accused his teacher of violating his First Amendment rights. McGahee went to see the dean, who pulled Loughner out of class and later told the math professor, “You don’t need to worry about Jared anymore.”

Last spring, in the poetry class, Loughner seemed more in control. At one point, he surprised the class when he animatedly recited a poem he’d written. He even grabbed his crotch as he spoke. The poem, “Meat Head,” was about a day in his life - waking up hung over, riding the bus to school, feeling lost at the gym:

“Looking around, the cute women are catching my eye/Probably waiting for their hot boyfriends wandering in the locker room/All the men are in shape with new white tank shirts, basketball shorts, and Nike shoes/Confusing look on my face of no idea what to do ...”

Still, many of his interactions with poetry classmates were off-putting........

I can just imagine his words were that to happen: "I simply spoke my mind, and as a result I lost my job, too many people in this country believe in free speech for extremists like Rush Limbaugh, but not for those who speak the truth."

However, the chance of him being voted out is slim to none, as I understand it. Apparantly Tucson is like Austin, Texas: a little liberal mecca in an otherwise pretty conservative state. I guess that since every state has a State University, every state inevitably has to have at least one liberal town. Madison, Wisconsin comes to mind, as does Lawrence, Kansas. I believe that Missoula, Montana is also in this category.

Bring him to Florida.
We can do a Ted Bundy on him. - We were the ones who removed that trash from society after the failure of multiple liberal NW states to do so.

I know its Federal Court but hey...

You Tube Video: Sheriff Dupnik: 'I have no agenda' "We have become a very angry country, part of it very ugly..... And that even though we have free speech in this country -- constantly 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week making the people angry at government and elected officials may benefit some party but I think those people bear some responsibility when incidents like this occur and may occur in the future ---- and I know that Congress (everybody) is concerned about their responsibility. they have no protection at all unless they have specific information, law enforcement doesn't get involved in their public appearances...........I just expressed my opinion, I was angry. I am still angry. I was very very affected personally.......Rep Giffords and Judge Hall wonderful people." (paraphrasing)

----------

Now I'll give Sheriff Dupnik some benefit of the doubt in one aspect. The Obama administration has let the situation in AZ fester and grow uglier by the day. Blame runs smack dab up to the top and the sheriff should have said so. He should have put party politics behind him and placed blame where it obviously rests. Instead, he pointed fingers at innocent people when he went before the cameras and accused alarmed Americans of creating the atmosphere for the shooting, rather than being angry with the wretchedly divisive Pelosi House, deal cutting Reid Senate and illegal immigrant vote seeking Obama White House. I guess I can't give the sheriff any benefit of the doubt after all.

He owes America an apology for his words.
