Fort Hood officials are investigating the death of a former soldier who was found shot to death near the memorial wall of the posts 1st Cavalry Division at about 9:15 this morning. The veterans death is being investigated as a possible suicide, officials said.
Officials have not released the former soldiers name pending notification of family, but an Army official said the veteran was a former member of the 1st Cavalry Division who left the Army last year.
The 1st Cavalry Divisions memorial wall, located near the divisions headquarters, honors the 730 soldiers killed during the divisions three deployments to Iraq. The most recent re-dedication ceremony took place in March 2010, when another 69 names were inscribed on the black granite wall. Units in the division are currently redeploying to Iraq for the fourth time.
RIP.
Yes, prayers for all, for strength, perseverance and the will to live and overcome. Our fighting men and women have all been but forgotten, to languish in hell-holes around the world while fat-cat slimeball politicians suck the morale and support right out from under them, all the while sneering and patting each other on the back.
Those of us with loved ones serving, some having paid the ultimate, others dreadfully wounded, lives changed forever, will NEVER FORGET these slime who endanger our troops and our nation.
How sad. Prayers for the family and friends. This is so heartbreaking.
