Fox News President Roger Ailes denounced attempts to tie Gabrielle Giffords shooting to Fox News and the right, but said he had told "our guys [to] shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually" in an interview with the hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons for Simmons's GlobalGrind.com.
"He just was not attached to the Tea Party. Its just a bullshit way to use the death of a little girl to get Fox News in an argument," Ailes said. "You know, theyre using this thing...apparently there was a map from one of Palins things that had her (Congresswoman Giffords) targeted district. So, we looked at the internet and the first thing we found in 2007, the Democrat Party had a targeted map with targets on it for the Palin district. These maps have been used for for years that I know of. I have two pictures of myself with a bull's-eye on my head. This is just bullshit. This goes on... both sides are wrong, but they both do it."
But Ailes also said he has told Fox's staff to stay away from "bombast."
"I told all of our guys, shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually. You dont have to do it with bombast. I hope the other side does that," he said.
He is right. Shep and Geraldo need to tone it down.
What a wuss.
Do your guys know what they did to Giffords' and Roll's friends and family? Do they care? Is anybody going to be fired over that travesty?
What, exactly, does "confirmed" mean to the newsholes at Fox News?
he had told "our guys [to] shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually"
what, the boss said to act like professionals? Drama queen Shep and attention Whorealdo need to do their job as newsmen? The horror!!!!!!!!!
Fine, Roger. I’ll just Bit Torrent any show I watch on your network.
That way I dont have to see any ads, and thus not buy any of their stuff.
They and you can go broke.
The AP and NPR are the ones that confirmed that she was dead. Every single news station were reporting that.
don’t forget Juan
Yeah? Who is "they"?
I read that idiotic thing that scrolls by at the bottom of the screen, I think it's called a Chiron or some such thing, and I saw where your "guys" informed people of the targets on Palin's website but they never mentioned the targets that were on Daily Kos's website.
Doesn't sound very fair or balanced to me.
Who's running that network anyways?
Fox wasn’t the bully in the room. They started it and finishers end it. I was raised no other way.
Fox News should know better than to trust AP or NPR.
Besides, the newshole said "Fox News has confirmed that Congresswoman Giffords has died."
If they didn't independently verify it, they shouldn't have said they confirmed it.
Every single news station were reporting that.
The reason I watch Fox News is because I don't expect them to be a little more responsible than "every single news station".
No more excuses. They dropped the ball and somebody should be held accountable.
I thought his response was great until he got to the “I told our guys to tone it down” part. I thought “What weasel words!”
No, the Left needs to take the logging industry out of their eye first before they proceed to lecture the Right about vitriol and hatred.
I posted it as well and apologize to all at FR. I make no excuse. I pray for her recovery from this senseless act.
Ailes heard abundantly from some of us yesterday about his #1 disgrace, Gerry Rivers and his #2, Sissy Shep.
If you care to give Ailes a piece of your mind, his email is:
He is a weasel, like all Repubs who kiss liberal arse.
Juan was slow motion compared to Geraldo. Rivers was nonstop right-bashing for two days.
And people wonder why I assume that Ailes is for Romney.
I bet a month-long boycott would get up Shep's and Whore-Aldo’s heads on a platter.
Murdoch isn't a conservative. FNC is to the right of MSNBC and CNN (but not truly conservative) because it's profitable. A boycott would bring Murdoch to his knees.
I don't accept your apology.
Because there's no need for you to apologize.
My beef is with Fox News. They were embarrassingly inaccurate and irresponsible. I may as well have been watching CNN.
Besides "confirming" Giffords had died, they "confirmed" that Judge John Roll had died. And then they retracted the confirmation that Judge Roll had died and then they later re-confirmed he had died.
Disgraceful.
Then they reported that Loughner had served in Afghanistan when he hadn't. In fact, he had been rejected from military service. Why? Beats me. They didn't ask and they didn't tell.
And to top it all off, Shemp Smith cherry-picked screen shots of his youtube video in an effort to portray him as being anti-immigrant when, in reality, the video made him look incoherent.
Further, FreeRepublic.com was ahead of the curve. People were posting info about Loughner 30 minutes to an hour ahead of Fox News. I learned on FR that Congresswoman Giffords was still alive at least half an hour before Fox News had to eat their "confirmation".
