The web continues to unfold.
However, when it comes to Podesta, that's the title given to career bureaucrats in charge of the secret police and torture in Medieval Italian city states, and in the top rungs of the official courts in Sicilian principalities ~ even under the Moslems.
Nancy and Leon would kiss Podesta's ring if he showed it to them, and be happy for the opportunity.
All of them would have been required to carry my own ancestors around in sedan chairs from palacio to palacio ~ and they might or might not have been allowed indoors if it rained.
Then, there's the Papacy, and that's about as high as the traditional Italian structure goes.
A clue, the Popes still hold court in Rome, my own ancestors were run off out of there about 700 years ago ('cause they were undoubtedly very evil and very French), and undoubtedly the Podestas, Panettas and d'Alessandros were reduced to a very impoverished sort of gentility where they were consigned to collecting empty wine bottles for refill at the village vintner!
The fact that descendants of all these families have been allowed to prosper means that America is truly a great land, but frequently unappreciated even by those who have been brought back from the precipice of history and given the keys to the kingdoms of this world.
The movie is called St. Rita. Catholics traditionally consider her the patron of HOPELESS SITUATIONS. She's also known as St. Rita of Cascia.
Every now and then I'll watch one of these "lives of the saints" movies because the underlying stories are either morally instructive, or historically explanatory. What I've seen so far is pretty much backed up by what the critics say ~ which is that this movie focuses on St. Rita's life before she became a nun so that gives you a bit of the color of the time.
This is the social order where the Podesta could be your best buddy but he also arranged for torture and for strangling enemies of the state.
St. Rita certainly knew what a rough crowd was all about! So, let's say this one is historically edifying!
Looking at today’s new thread posting of an old article on Ashley Turton and several of the old threads about her. Had not seen this fact posted anywhere, so I will stick it here.
