Ashley Turton, the wife of an Obama official and a lobbist, was found dead this morning in a burning car parked in her garage.
The bizarre death has D.C. wondering what happened to Turton. Authorities said her death appears to have resulted from "a low-speed crash, an unknown medical condition, the fire, or some combination of the three," the Washington Post reported.
Turton, who was 37, lived a full life. Surge Desk rounds up what we know about her so far.
1. She was one-half of a power couple Turton was married to Dan Turton, the White House's deputy director of legislative affairs for the U.S. House.Last year, Politco included them in a piece on White House aides who are married to lobbyists. The two were well-known in Democratic circles.
2. She used to work for Congress Before becoming a lobbyist, Turton served as chief of staff to Rep. Rosa DeLauro, a Democrat from Connecticut. She also spent time as an aide to Rep. Richard Gephardt.
3. She lobbied for Progress Energy After leaving the Hill, Turton began working in 2007 as a regulatory analyst for Progress Energy, a North Carolina-based utility company. Progress Energy is also in the news today because of a possible $13.7 billion merger with Duke Energy.
4. She was a family woman The Turtons have three children, as this picture from her Facebook page shows. According to neighbors, the children are all under 5 years old. The couple purchased the home in Southeast D.C. for $826,000 in 2003.
5. She will be missed by many in D.C. As news of Turton's death spread today, Powerhouse Energy issued a statement offering condolences, and friends and old co-workers took to Twitter to share their sorrow.
“NEW YORK (TheStreet) — Duke Energy(DUK) agreed to acquire Progress Energy(PGN) on Monday in a $13.7 billion all-stock deal, which would create the largest U.S. utility company if regulators in North and South Carolina approve the deal.” I beleive I read she was a regulator with Progress
Energy if so would she have any say in this and supopsedly she was leaving at 5am to catch a plane where was she going?
Is it just me or does this sound completely insane?
The story said the car was 7/8s into the garage and was at an odd angle, and they wouldn’t give any information out on the condition of her body. Hard to say what actually happened ... sure is sad though. She had little kids.
Obviously, they failed.
Obviously, they failed.
First John Wheeler. Now Ashley Turton. Who was the “adult male” mentioned in the article who supposedly was at home when all of this occurred? And why has the husband not been heard from, nor has he made any statements to the press? In the position that he is in? And why has the White House refused comment? Mrs. Wheeler was never heard from either, on the death of her husband. Not even a report of anger or outrage. From either of the spouses. All we have is silence. The way these two “deaths” are being handled by the media and by the investigative services is very, very suspicious.
To quote the Sundance Kid:
"Ummmm, think you used enough energy there Butch?"

Perhaps it’s just me, but generally, people don’t simply drive into their garages and burst into flames.
New GM combustable car. Boy they really think we’re stupid!
“THE FORT MARCY PARK SYNDROME”
???I wonder who “adjusted” the wiring on her starter switch???
Actually being able to write in a coherent manner is no longer a requirement for a degree in journalism.
LOL! I had a yellow one, my first brand new car when I was 18.
What a bargain that was...
MSM and insanity seem to go together...
Yes, that’s probably true. Wonder if the author even knows cursive. That’s not required either, right (write?)?
Didn’t someone leak evidence showing collusion between the LSM and congress about pinning the shooting on Palin, the TP, and the right? Maybe hubby?
