Are you suggesting that “civil unrest” is around the corner, and such a possibility is not limited to a novel?

In a word, yes.

Oh, I am certain significant unrest rebellion is coming, sooner than later. So many scenarios:

Civilian Americans defending the border on the scale of a battle (which I fully expect the government sends troops to suppress the citizens)

Race riot in one of the Muslim slums like Detroit requiring federal troops or a negotiated submission to Sharia law.

An assassin shoots up a tea party event.

An over zealous cop fires into a bunch of grannies at a tea party event.

A natural disaster of the scale of Katrina with the "victims" violently demanding the compensation for their plight.

Civil and global wars start in the strangest ways.

...tea, dumped over the side of a boat.

Anything more drastic is a potential catalyst. My wife thinks I am overreacting a bit, but I am watching the developments of the Tucson shooting, knowing full well that this could be a fuse on a powder keg.

With the other events around the country and the world, this is a recipe for extremes.
