I’m originally from Texas but I was in New Orleans on New Years Day for the Sugar Bowl in 1964 when it snowed (one inch or so, but it stuck). The newspapers were gobsmacked, as the Brits say. Evidently, it had last snowed in New Orleans sometime in the 18880s.

Hmmm.... that would put it during the Last Ice Age.

I remembered that it also snowed here on February 12, 1958 when I was in grade school. I remember this for several reasons not the least of which is that my father and I made a few sad snowmen on our back patio and my mother took pictures of our finished products. My father died in July of 1958 so I was glad that I had that fun memory of him on that rare snow day.

It took me a while to find a reference to that snow, but I was finally successful. It’s mentioned on the last paragraph.
