I do not know what his religion is. When I say that he is ‘technically’ Jewish, this is a religious custom point. I only mean that according to Judaism he would be accepted as ‘Jewish’ at any synagogue. How or if he worshiped anything other than himself is unknown.

From the information released so far, he was most likely an atheist or a Devil worshiper so we will have to wait and see. I doubt he had any connection with the Jewish faith. However, it would interesting to know if he had a Bar Mitzvah. According to his mother's tradition, he should have. I dunno?

However, your point is valid. He could have easily entered a reformed synagogue unencumbered both as a Jew and as a general nutcase.
