Democrat operatives (Raines, Gorelick, et al) were running the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac show. Committed liberal Democrats in Congress (Dodd, Frank, et al) were overseeing them.
Surely, they could all see that the ship was sinking. Did they pull the plug when they did for political benefit?

Well actually I don’t think dems are smart enough to think about maximum political effect. Political theater, and drama maybe, but being able to engineer what happened, Hmmm?
