Having just returned from the e21 and Manhattan Institute-sponsored Conversation with Paul Ryan (very ably conducted by Paul Gigot)--and having seen Marco Rubio speak recently as well, I'll just say this: Wouldn't it be easier just to agree now on a Ryan-Rubio ticket, and save everyone an awful lot of time, effort, and money over the next year and a half?

ONe that neither man will participate in. Kristol should probably shut up if he has nothing intelligent to add.

Pass.
I interpret this bit from Kristol as another “establishment Republican” stating publicly “not Palin”. Coming from Kristol, it’s significant because wasn’t Kristol the one who “found” Palin back in the summer of 2007 and pushed her VP candidacy in DC circles and to McCain? Now he’s pushing 2 candidates who are unlikely to run. It appears to me that Kristol and Palin have broken up. Sarah, he’s just not that into you.
BTW, I like both men. A little more seasoning and they’ll be ready
The libs will say Rubio and Ryan don’t have enough “experience”. Of course, Obama had a lot of political and executive experience before he decided to run./s
LLS
Conservatives have Kristol’s number, have seen what it has wrought and have had quite enough of “neo-conservatism”.
Kristols interest in Ryan & Rubio only raises a red flag for me that they may be candidates for influence, pliable foils for more moderation, less conservatism, and back to Republican business as usual.
Bill Kristol says great things that are compatible with conservative thought, but infrequently, so his grip on opinion has fallen hard, as it should.
I also like both of them. I don’t think either is ready to move up to the big house, but they are both rising stars and among our best.
Well, of course. They thought they had someone who would sit down and shut up. The establishment has it's plans, and you don't go against them and remain in their good graces.
I like Ryan and Rubio, but they are not running for president this time around, and this slobbering by Kristol is disconcerting to say the least.
Paul Ryan is a TARPer. He has serious lapses on the power and purpose of Gov’t.
Speaking purely on the basis of looks, that would be one HOT ticket.
I think bill Crystal should research Marco Rubio’s eligibilty status first. I love the guy but I think he may not meet the Natural born ciitzen definition.
I agree with you about his NBC. However, the guy has not DONE anything yet!!!! If we start pushing candidates like this we’re just as bad as those who swore Obama was great because of his charisma. Show me you can walk the walk instead of just talk the talk.
And the notion of running for Prez before even serving a day in his newly elected federal office is political puffery
Are you kidding...he was born here, in Miami, and has a birth certificate to prove it. His parents were exiles from Cuba and I suspect not pro commie.
It appears to me that Kristol and Palin have broken up. Sarah, hes just not that into you.
Kristol was very upset with Gov. Palin when she endorsed Raul Paul. Since that time his tune has changed. These people need to understand that nobody agrees on everything 100% of the time and they need to get over it.
He was for the establishment guy in the primary.
Ryan deals the hand he has been dealt.. 3/2/1 year ago were all different situations..
He has now "power".. to do something..
“Are you kidding...he was born here, in Miami, and has a birth certificate to prove it. His parents were exiles from Cuba and I suspect not pro commie.”
No I’m not kidding. My understanding was that Rubio’s parents were not citizens at the time of his birth. If they were then no problem.
There are two types of ways people become citizens, and only two ways - they are born here, or they are naturalized. That’s it. There is no difference between a “NBC” and a ‘mere born citizen.’
I defy anyone who believes differently to point to one, single, solitary, piece of government documentation (birth ceritifcate, passport, etc.)issued to anybody that draws a distinction between a ‘NBC’ and a mere ‘born’ citizen.
