Electric Cars May Accelerate Global Warming

Electric cars are not a silver bullet solution for global warming, but could they actually be part of the problem? In some developing countries, the answer is likely yes, according to the results of a modeling exercise conducted by Oxford Universitys Reed Doucette and Malcolm McCullocha.
The results, which appeared in a paper published in Energy Policy last Fall, found that for countries with dirty power supplies like India and China widespread adoption of electric vehicles could lead to more not less CO2 emissions compared to widespread adoption of gasoline based vehicles, unless dramatically less CO2 intensive.
Given the state of their power generation mixes in 2010, the case for widespread adoption of [electric vehicles] in both China and India solely on the basis of potential CO2 emissions reductions is not too compelling, especially when the generally higher capital cost of [electric vehicles] relative to [gasoline]-based vehicles is considered, Doucette and Malcolm McCulloch concluded.
Here is how the mechanics of the analysis worked:

There is no Global Warming and electric cars are a bonehead idea... except for on the golf course, where they’re called “carts”, not “cars”.
Fine. Issue everyone a bicycle and call it a day.
Take that Al Bore and all you Watermelon (Green on the outside & RED on the inside) EnviroNutties.
Unintended consequences always with this bunch. I heard on Rush that 100,000 birds die each year because of those windmills the left just loves, unless it is in their yard.
What is that map supposed to be showing? Tons, lbs, cubic foot? what? It doesn’t appear to be on a per capita basis either, which is just plain stupid.
This is about as simple as the Leftist idiot doesn’t understand where the energy from plug comes from.
Electric cars may accelerate CO2 emissions, which fortunately are harmless to climate and beneficial to agriculture.
Sacrifices to the proper gods are always acceptable.
Notice how the developing countries are exempted from electric cars? The countries that pollute the most are exempted and the countries that pollute the least are going to be required to own them.
If what they say is true, then I’m changing my position. We need electric cars. I’m freezing.
Where does the electricity come from? Fairy dust?
Need better batteries and better electric motors, then electric cars will make sense...heck even electric jet airplanes will make sense if the batteries are good enough.
but we probably also need to figure out a better way to generate the electricity. Maybe someday electric cars will make sense, but not today.
Computers will be moving away from electricity and to using lasers and fiber optics very soon. Maybe someday there will be laser light powered cars.
CO2 = plant food and more plants = more greenhouse gasses!!
We're dooooommmmeeeeddddd!!!!!
It come from the power lines. Just ax my Prius driving neighbor.
...and what do you think powers lasers and fiber optics?
I recall reading posts here years ago claiming that electric cars would increase energy usage and thus “greenhouse” gases. In fact, I recall writing just such a post!
Did you factor in nuclear power?
A neighbor and I went to the Charlotte auto show last month where he showed interest in a Volt.
I told him that if he buys the Volt and plugs it in to charge the battery, that it's actually a Coal Car.
