Most women that I know...can't shoot a .45 or a .357 accurately. Unless they practice a LOT.
Something smaller..with hollow point ammo is the way to go.
you are correct that 'only hits count'...on that note i would always suggest becoming proficient with the 'most' gun you can handle and afford to shoot regularly...
lots of ladies are plenty capable and damned dangerous with full bore pistols...
