It’s in most of the flu vaccines. AAP recommends 6 month olds get two of these separated by 1m. It’s also pushed very very hard on pregnant women. Even though if you read the package insert the manufacturer itself says ‘not tested or approved in pregnant women’.

Tests probably take years, and the vaccine changes yearly.

Children's flu vaccine does not have thimerosal, and if as an adult you want thimerosal free flu vaccine, just ask. Here is a chart from the CDC breaking down this years flu vaccine supply by manufacturer, and preservative:
