(South Texas:)Attempted kidnapping suspect recovering from bullet wounds

NEAR MISSION -- Hidalgo County Sheriff's deputies are keeping watch at McAllen Medical Center until a suspect in an attempted kidnapping case recovers from surgery for two gunshot wounds.

A 49-year-old man north of Mission told authorities he shot at least one of three men who allegedly tried to kidnap him outside of his home Monday night.

But when the unidentified suspect arrived at the hospital not long after that incident, he told authorities two children shot him near 29th Street and Nolana Road in McAllen.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office reported the McAllen Police Department recorded no such event in that area, and two deputies now stand guard near the suspect at the hospital until they can determine if he was involved in the attempted kidnapping.

Randal Jones told investigators Monday that he was unloading his vehicle at his home on the 8900 block of Doffin Road just north of Mission when a grey pickup truck pulled up behind him. A press release reports three men told Jones in Spanish that they would take him and pressed a gun to his back.

According to the release, Jones then pulled out his own concealed handgun and shot six rounds toward the suspects. He said he saw at least one suspect "go down" before the two others picked him up, dropped him in the bed of the truck and then drove away southbound toward FM 2221.

"If evidence indicates that shooting victim attempted to kidnap Mr. Jones, then no charges will be filed against Mr. Jones," Sheriff Lupe Trevino said. "Efforts by our Crime Scene Investigation Unit at the crime scene and at the hospital are being made to connect our shooting victim to the reported attempted kidnapping."

The sheriff added investigators had yet to establish a motive.

About 10 miles north of the Rio Grande.

Wonder if ransom money could be a motive?

If evidence indicates that shooting victim attempted to kidnap Mr. Jones, then no charges will be filed against Mr. Jones

The evidence was back across the border within minutes of the shooting. Unless there's blood on the pavement or one of his neighbors admits to seeing something then the LE has nothing to support or disprove his story. Either way, why would he be charged with anything?

According to the “suspect” he was shot by 2 children!

Maybe they can tie the bullets in his back to the homeowners gun?

Interesting that they are all Mexicans on the top 10 wanted list but half of them are listed as “white male”.

Mexicans (or "Hispanics") are listed as Caucasians if they commit a crime, but are Hispanic if they are victims of a crime. You do the math.

...Texas Most Wanted List...

Good lordy. How did that one lone American make the roster!!??

Kidnapping is a real cash crop business by the cartels in Mexico. Most of the time the kidnapped doesn't ever get home alive anyhow - but at least if you pay the ransom, the pieces you get back are sometimes bigger.

It's only been a matter of time before these criminals figure there is more money to be made on this side of the border than on that side with kidnapping and ransom. Look for more of it. Lots more. Americans are rich compared to most Mexicans, and there are a lot more targets.

It appears maybe it has already started? The victim didn't have a Spanish name.

“PS - what’s Texas law on further firing at bad guys who just fired at you but are now escaping?”

Carry speed loaders or extra mags.

Would like to know what he was carrying. (I’m thinking a 6 rnd .308 auto.) But it took some “huevos” to pull it with a gun stuck in his back!

.308 =.380!

Too early, too old, and/or not enough coffee.
