this is the ACLU thinking in incrimentalism.
The second amendment is a dodge. The real goal is to have non-citizens vote.

The founder {Baldwin} was an avowed communist, and the organization has never wavered from it's roots. Actually, it did waver for a while. Don't forget the "was" part. There were a lot of Americans who were all starry-eyed over Stalin in the 20s and 30s. The smarter and less delusioned ones later acknowledged his atrocities and dropped support for communism. Baldwin was one when he purged the ACLU of communists in 1940. That included one of the founders, Elizabeth Flynn, who remained a staunch commie and Soviet supporter for the rest of her life. OTOH, they were allowed back in the 60s and Flynn's status was officially rehabilitated in the 70s. So the ACLU did have a period where communism was officially unacceptable.

The ACLU are nothing but a bunch of renegade tofu-eating lawyers wearing Birkenstocks on their smelly feet. Why has it been so difficult to find something with which to indict them? Radical groups in America are always running afoul of the law. No governmental agency that I've ever heard has gone after the ACLU. As a taxpayer watching them tie up our courts anytime they please with their perverse lawsuits, just what makes this bunch so out-of-bounds and immune to congressional investigation? And I don't buy the argument that sometimes they are on the right side. That's like saying forgive your enemy because when he's not throwing Molotov cocktails at your house he is driving down the road yielding the right of way to every motorist he sees. Big deal.

The ACLU represented a Nebraska Nazi (self proclaimed) several years ago when he was refused a state handgun purchase permit. Just before it went to court, they withdrew. He mounted a weak defense on his own and lost. I sometimes wonder if the ACLU did that on purpose in order to get a bad precedent established.
