Mayfair Mall closes early after tumult
Journal Sentinel ^ | Jan. 2, 2011 | Meg Jones of the

"What occurred this afternoon appears to be a group of youth intent on disrupting the shopping experience at Mayfair. The safety and security of our visitors are always our top priority. This behavior is isolated and we will not condone it," Mayfair Senior General Manager Steve Smith said in the statement.

"To assist police earlier in identifying and apprehending suspects, we made the decision to close the mall shortly before our regular closing time," Smith said. "We anticipate there will be consequences as a result of what happened today."

A Macy's cosmetics counter employee said she and her co-workers were told that guns were fired outside the mall, though she did not hear any shots.

She said as they started to close their registers, another announcement came over the loudspeaker that there was an emergency outside the mall and that customers should stay inside Macy's.

From inside Macy's, the employee saw security officers rush to the mall entrance after seeing a group of teenagers causing a ruckus right outside Macy's doors in the mall. She saw the youths run outside the mall entrance.

"The security staff were slightly frantic and were running back and forth between the Macy's entrances," she said in an e-mail. "Some managers at Macy's were running around, and we soon heard an announcement that the store was closing early and that customers should make their final purchases."

She eventually left with other Macy's employees.

Downtown Milwaukee. I wonder how much stuff was looted while these “youths” rampaged through the stores.

Busting heads would be the order of the day. After that arrest and jail for at least 5 years.

Kids with no parental guidance. Now, can you imagine what’s going to happen when all the social programs get cut and/or dry up? You ain’t seen nothing yet.

She walked out the second floor of the bookseller and "saw large sums of teenagers..."

I don't recall ever being referred to as part of a "sum" when I was a teenager.

Our local malls have a policy whereby “youts” can't be without parental escort after a certain time of day. Seems to be working pretty well.

A parody from an old western:

"We hang people for busting up malls but only jail them for car theft, we've got plenty of cars but only one decent mall..."

Actually it’s a bit west and north of the heart of downtown. Not like it happened near the train station ( I mean the multi-purpose transportation hub or whatever that name is).

The comments on the article are especially telling. They take a while to load, but it’s CLEAR that the local populace is wondering WHY the details in the ‘reporting’ are so sparse. It must be that a protected class was at fault ...

We had similar incident this past summer where urban youth descended upon a carnival with rides and such with the intent of disrupting it and the police and security had to shut it down:

Greece Carnival Cut Short for Safety Reasons

Apparently, the youth used social media (Facebook and Twitter) to get the word out to crash the carnival and the organizers are not going to hold the carnival again because of this incident.

Apparently this particular group of yutes ran in through one entrance and trashed the place.

Just a bunch of amoral thugs on a rampage.

“Let’s go scare some soccer moms” <— language cleaned up.

Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?
