Should she have been photographing evidence at a site where someone had fired shots a few minutes before, or should she and her partner have been ready and on the alert to encounter the gunman?

Good point. Survival instincts come innately to the male. There's a reason men used to be hunters/ gatherers and women stayed in their caves nurturing the young. No amount of social engineering will change instincts. I am not saying women should only stay home and rear the young, but I think there are somethings in which women don't naturally belong, even if training helps to a degree.

This is more a matter of police training and procedure. Presumably, they teach something at the police academy before they give them guns and badges - and she was accompanied by a male partner.

The whole operation seemed kind of amateurish. In the video, you will see a male officer without body armor and without cover firing a handgun at the trailer from about 30 feet, when he knows the guy inside has a shotgun. Then he is shot.
