I think the age for getting Social Security should go up. When it was first established, people who were 65 were in pretty poor shape, compared to now. Should we really be making payments for people who are going to live another 30 years? Shouldn’t we look at winding down slowly on retirement, with part-time or seasonal work, as long as people are able? With fewer young people around to pay into social security, this is a reasonable adjustment.

Or, we could grant amnesty to a bunch of illegal aliens and have them support the system. /s

Sarcasm tag aside, what makes anyone think that those who are here now earning cash under the table AND getting free benefits would suddenly want to become indentured under our current system?

In case you don’t realize it, the SS retirement age is no longer 65. President Reagan signed a SS reform bill years ago that raised the SS retirement age. I can’t collect full benefits till my 66 birthday, and my younger brother in law can’t collect till he’s 67.

The only thing you still get at 65 is Medicare, and that costs over 1200 in premiums with a $155 deductible, plus much bigger bucks for premiums for supplemental insurance and prescription drug plan premiums.

I don't mean to just single you out as you are just one of many that post without understanding facts. The age of eligibility has gone up and is on a schedule to continue to rise.

The real problem is twofold. The money paid into the system by seniors like me has gone into the General Fund instead of the ficticional Lock Box. The economy is in horrible shape. I would be very happy to have taken the money that I have contributed for 50 years and invested it myself.

You are falling for the same fiction the progressives believe, that the only cuts in our budget can be found in SS. Try looking around at the massive waste in other sectors of the Gubment.
