Iran Keen to Export Air-Defense Systems
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian military commander on Sunday stressed Iran's capability to supply the country's air-defense needs, and voiced Tehran's preparedness to export home-made air-defense systems to foreign countries.
"We are supplying all of our needs in the field of air-defense domestically and inside the country," Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Ahmad Miqani told FNA.
He stressed that Tehran has the capability to export air-defense systems, and added, "When we start production of a weapon it means that we are mass-producing it and we can export our surplus products to the other countries if there is no problem."
Iran's air defense unit has conducted successful tests of different anti-aircraft defense systems, including the anti-cruise Tor-M1 and sophisticated S-200 anti-aircraft missile systems, during the nationwide air drills in November.
The military exercises named 'Defenders of the Sky of Vellayat III' covered the entire airspace of the country.
Iran's S-200 system is a very long range, medium-to-high altitude surface-to-air missile (SAM) system designed to defend large areas from bomber attack or other strategic aircrafts. Each battalion has 6 single-rail missile launchers and fire control radar. It can be linked to other longer-range radar systems.
Each missile is launched by 4 solid-fueled strap-on rocket boosters. Maximum range is between 200 and 350 km depending on the model. The missile uses radio illumination mid-course correction to fly towards the target with a terminal semi active radar homing phase.
The Tor-M1 is a short range, mobile air defense system intended for engagement of fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, UAVs, and cruise missiles flying between medium and very low altitudes even in severe countermeasures environments.
The Islamic Republic Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force has made a wide use of the necessary techniques and equipments to get prepared for defending the country against any potential Cruise attack.
In May 2010, Iran inaugurated production line of a powerful missile defense shield to destroy incoming cruise missiles.
"Mesbah (Lantern) 1 air-defense system is designed and built to counter air attacks, different kinds of airplanes, cruise missiles, choppers and other air threats in low altitudes," Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said at the time.
"The defense system has been designed on the basis of increasing the volume of fire and controlling it by a reliable system," Vahidi added.
Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.
Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.

Iranian S-200 missile which is older than most generals in their military.
Here is a country that could not even manufacture their own automobiles as late as 5 years ago and is going to somehow, miraculously, come up with some Moozie brain power to build a sophisticated missile defense system?
I ain'y buyin' it!!!
The S-200 is a Soviet system which has been around for more than 40 years.
