Space weather: Forecasters keep eye on looming 'Solar Max'

I would not be surprised if this cycle finally peaks at less than 40 before heading back down, which would signal us being in something closer to the Maunder Minimum. If that happens (around 2013) be prepared for some extreme ugliness as the world experiences massive crop failures and famine.

Yeah, hubby and I have been planning to move back to the Deep South, when we've finished remodeling our house, and get it sold. We're hoping that will happen before the end of this year. We'd already noticed the winters getting harder in the last few years, and had been following the sunspots, or dearth thereof, since the end of 2005.

Have you read Henrik Svensmark's book, "The Chilling Stars: A Cosmic View of Climate Change" ? Our #2 son was convinced that AGW was a fact, until we presented him with the SCIENCE in that book, and sent a few more articles his way. He was never into the 'religion' of AGW, but had been mostly convinced by the articles promulgated by the AGW folks, because he hadn't see the other side. He uses his MIND, though, so he can be convinced. ;o)

Not to worry, they'll come around. If not in this cycle, then the next. Of course some old timers are mindful of just how many cycles they have left.

I have been licensed since 1978. In ‘09 I finally went for the Amateur Extra and got it. That has made HF more fun. It seems 40M is always open to somewhere and there is more DX and less stateside competition in the lower subband. Likewise the other bands to some extent.

And in the coming weeks we should start seeing more E-skip, so be checking 10M & up and make some calls. It is like a box of chocolates.
