Marine Sgt. Garrett A. Misener's family will not be able to travel to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware tonight -- when his body is expected to return to the U.S. -- because of the blizzard that struck the East Coast and forced airlines to cancel flights nationwide.
Misener's mother, Janne Zaccagnino, said a five-hour flight from Dover to Memphis will then bring her son home.
Misener, a 25-year-old Marine squad leader, died in the early morning hours Monday in Afghanistan, fatally wounded by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Helmand province, according to his family and the Department of Defense. The family received word of his death Sunday night because of the time difference.
Misener was born in Clovis, N.M., and when his mother took him shopping in Salt Lake City for his second birthday, he dismissed the cowboy clothes in the store, Zaccagnino said. He chose the camouflage overalls.
"I had numerous conversations with him since the time he was 2," Zaccagnino said Tuesday, returning to her home in Fayette County from a holiday trip to California. "I knew it was coming."

God bless and hold this man in your arms. Comfort his family.
I'm ready for our troops to get out of Afghanistan and come home.

Exactly!!! Anytime washington elites start running the war you know more of our troops are going to get killed and the war will be a no win situation. Not that our troops couldn’t win and WIN BIG. But, like you said, they have their hands tied behind their backs. Like shouting fish in a barrel.
We need more Patton’s and less perfumed generals like Weasly Clark.
God bless this hero who sacrificed all for us. Prayers and comfort to his family. :(
No doubt the steel horse cavalry of the Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders will welcome this hero home.
Flags at half staff in New Mexico too.
What a great tribute if the entire city of Memphis would turn out to see him come home especially as long as his family can’t meet him in DE. Prayers for the family - a terrible burden and loss for them. Something that can never be overcome.
"...I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and touched the face of God".
God Bless this family and hero you have taken from us.
It is our duty as Americans to spend every waking night thinking about how we can restore this nation back to its founding, for the patriots and families like this that have sacrificed so much for our ability to do so.
American Fighting Man.
The very best of the best.
