I believe that Abercrombie has confused two different sets of interracial couples around the UH campus in the early sixties. The timeline of the Obama/Dunham saga would have allowed for precious few "social events" involving Obama Sr., Dunham, and the child. Dunham was gone from Hawaii - off to Washington to attend UW - before the baby's umbilical cord fell off.

Dunham was gone from Hawaii - off to Washington to attend UW - before the baby's umbilical cord fell off, and Obama Sr. was off to Massachusetts before Dunham returned to Hawaii from Washington.

I don't think there was ever any significant interaction between Obama and his son unless it took place via the postal system.
