The ones I’ve talked to for over 20 years who work in the oil business do believe it. It may be a self-serving belief (I will admit that), but not having the background to argue effectively I must bow to those I have met (many of whom are graduates of major universities [Washoo and SLU] for example). Science evolves and my conversations may be outdated, but I’d venture there are many in the hard sciences who would say my statement is just as likely to be valid as those who do not. I still believe it is a cyclical occurrence and if all we are disputing is whether volcanoes and cow farts are causing this angst or if it is man-made, we are still light years away from understanding the problem. I deal with logic and philosophy much better than experimental theories which must be obvious to any casual observer who reads my posts. I bow to hard science if I can find any agreement among the voices putting forth theories.
Sammon’s statement is a responsible position for a news organization to take. This article, on the other hand, openly betrays a bias that is unmistakable.
Near as I can tell, the source for the "volcano exceeds human" came from water vapor. Volcanoes put out plenty of water vapor and that exceeds human CO2 in quantity. But that is purely apples and oranges because water vapor from oceans evaporating every day far exceeds water vapor from volcanoes.
