Well it still looks like the F-23 and it go's to prove a point,that the U.S.doesn't have a monopoly on aircraft design.Let's hope that the USAF and the U.S. Navy are planning ahead to meet and defeat any potential 5th Generation fighters No matter what country builds them.

Hopefully the confess and Lockeed-Martin can come to an agreement to build more F-22’s at a lower price point.Because it looks like we're going to need them soon.

As of right Now we don't have enough F-22’s to act as a deterrent to any major countries air forces.

Stealthy it’s not—especially from the rear. Even Sukhoi-HAL PAK-FA will likely get F-22 style engine exhaust nozzles that will blend into the rear if the fuselage to reduce its radar cross section.

The canards remind me of the F-15 ACTIVE, which also had dihedral in the canards.

On this aircraft I do not see any similarity to the F-111.

has a side by side cockpit that resembles the F-111.

I wonder if the Chinese stole the plans.

The plans were part of an exchange program.

Give money to Bill Clinton in exchange for these plans and many other military secrets. (ie. MIRV technology for their missiles)

With those exhausts and what appear to be pylons on the wings, I don’t know how “stealthy” that thing’s going to be compared to US birds. Big fighter though.

The Chinese have fly by wire on this aircraft.

The Chengdu guys really like canards despite the hit on RCS,which can be managed, and they have not yet mastered some of the more sophisticated methods of pitch control.

I would not dismiss this design - they have been working on it since the 80’s and it could be very well executed within the materials and technological constraints they are dealing with.

Precisely my point. The reason they are using the canard is for high angle of attack, slow speed pitch control. They have fly by wire, but it is obviously not advanced to the point where conventional control surfaces can be used throughout the flight envelope. In simple terms they haven't figured out how (or more likely where) to sample pitch, roll and yaw so that their flight system can compensate for high angles of attack using conventional control surfaces or thrust vectoring. So, they use the canard.

True, if they have the right materials. This is an area where I've worked. To my knowledge the Chinese do not currently have material science advanced to the point where they fully understand RF absorption.

I would not dismiss this design

I wouldn't dismiss anything out of the Chinese......

I was thinking that with all the “add-ons” you mentioned that this thing will be about as stealthy as my motor home.

And considering the Chinese build quality I have seen in other vehicles(look good, but fall apart in 6 months) I would not want to fly it. The real rigors of combat will render it useless after a few missions.
