SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- What started with planning a break-in ended with one family planning a funeral.

West Virginia State Police say Stephen King, a man in his 20s, broke into the Scott Depot home of Jeff Walker. Troopers say Walker's dogs alerted him of the intruder. ADVERTISEMENT

"He heard the dogs, he saw a gentleman standing there who had a handgun, his handgun was raised," W.Va. State Police Sgt. K.S. Dickson said. "Mr. Walker, who was an avid sportsman and hunter, raised his gun and shot the man."

Troopers say it was a self-defense situation -- that Walker had no choice but to shoot after King pointed a loaded gun at him.

King was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

"They told Mr. King, 'Look, don't come around here. You're not welcome; don't come on our property,' " Dickson said. "It's just a terrible tragedy."

Walker has not been charged. Troopers say it is likely this case will go before a grand jury.

Gentlemen don't enter a home uninvited with a handgun.

Gentlemen don't enter a home uninvited with a handgun.

Another prime example of how our language has been bastardized by public officials who want to sound important but haven't a blind idea what they're saying.

This was a borderline suicide. This moron just took himself out of the gene pool. I love a feel-good story in the morning.

How long before the taxidermist is finished? Will look great over the mantle.

Calling this guy a ‘gentleman’ is almost as irritating as calling a 50 year old man who stabs his live-in woman to death her ‘boyfriend.’

The dead guy was a “neighbor”? So shooter and deceased knew one another? Was this really a break-in? Were the doors forced? Was anyone else in the house? When your dogs bark, do you grab your long gun? Do either shooter or shootee have criminal records?

Yes one does grab their gun when the dogs bark unless one allready has it on them.

When one lives in the country barking dogs means one thing there is something that is not normal. Bear, deer, coyotes ect.
