On Monday morning, state troopers pulled over a van with a broken windshield on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and discovered 10 illegal aliens inside the vehicle. According to Pennsylvania State Police Sgt. Anthony Deluca, three of the illegal aliens escaped during the traffic stop but were captured a short time later.

The nine Salvadoran nationals and one Honduran were all turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The illegal aliens were on their way from Maryland to work on a taxpayer-funded housing project in Jeannette, PA.

The federal project is being built by Homes Build Hope, a subsidiary of AdelphoiUSA.

And I am to believe no American would want a well paying construction job on a Federal project.

So the “rest of this story” should be: what sanctions will the contractor face for employing the illegals?

After a bit of research it looks like this is another example of a non union construction company exploiting illegal labor. I would love to see their certified payrolls to see if they had been paying prevailing wages if required to do so. No more government contracts for this guy since he broke the law. Maybe a few hundred thousand dollar fine is in order. I think the whole company should be investigated since we all know how notorious non union construction companies are at hiring illegals. They treat them like slave labor and pay them pennies.

As opposed to union goon companies that never, ever use illegals.

I don’t think so...

..

Youths who are being treated for drug and alcohol addiction, mental health problems and behavioral issues receive care from Adelphoi USA in neighborhood settings.

At Adelphoi USA group home facilities throughout Pennsylvania, there are no company signs on front lawns to identify their purpose. Instead, youths come to a real home-like atmosphere for treatment.

Jeannette, PA? Is that the same housing project that Ohio State’s Terrelle Pryor grew up in?

Disgusting!!

Call your reps and senators and demand E-Verify for ALL employers. Let them know that they represent you, not the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

I don’t work there, but I work in the same environment. I joked with these guy on the way to northern MN about how at least it was “Jose” taking over, instead of “Abdul”. But at the same time I was seething. So was one of them. I kept my underemployment.

The federal government hires thousands of illegal aliens...It's their favorite people...They've proved that over and over and over and over.

Make that 10 Americans and you can bet that there are at least 10 of them in that area who would be glad to have those jobs.

Without a doubt the company's excuse will be that the workers are not company employees. They are subcontracted by a third party who is responsible for checking their status.

Do H2B visas now cover the construction industry? I recently discovered a HUD condominium project in Ohio being built entirely by illegals. I ‘visited’ the site several times, often on Sundays and once on a holiday and found only non-english speaking Hispanics and many vehicles with out- of-state plates. Only the ‘supervisors’ were Caucasian. The same company has recently completed several other housing projects the same way.

People need to travel to “A Town Named Hope” if they want to see the results of the Toon and the Huckster. That place is more than 10% hispanic now. I saw a school bus unload while I was there one day. The Black kids were definitely in the minority.

While I’m certainly no fan of illegal aliens...these people are treated poorly, bait-and-switched on wage promises, and sometimes even stiffed..routinely. The contractor prefers illegals because he knows they will have little recourse when the foreman says “payroll is gonna be a little short this week”.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s modern day slave labor. Both the contractor and the 3rd party employment agency should be held accountable. If a Plantiff can establish ‘causation’, I would think that RICO rackettering laws would apply.

I’d be interested in learning about how you know this company is non-union or if it is a union company and the illegals are part of the union?

Another thing that interests me....aren’t individuals working on most construction jobs supposed to be licensed in their trade?

Because hiring illegals on a union crew defeats the purpose of hiring illegals. It's just not done that often.
